Can't save alpha maps

Hello
I haven’t found this in a search so I’m asking. I want to create a cavity or AO map from the masking options (ZB3.12, mac). I hit the respective button and all is fine, I get both AO and Cavity maps applied to the model. But when I hit ‘Create Alpha’, I get a spinning beachball, no indocation that ZB is calculating anything and opening the force quit dialogue informs me ZB is not responding, which leads me to believe it has hung. The model I’m working on has almost 5 million polys so perhaps I’m not waiting long enough, but if that was the case wouldn’t I be seeing ZB’s progress bar?
I think its a repeatable crash unfortunately.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sav

I don’t have the Mac version, so can’t say for sure, but if this is a bug, try making the maps via the texture route. If 8 bit depth is not a problem for you you can flood the masked model with black and with the Fix Seam Border adjusted, press the Colour to Texture button.

Cheers,

R

Ah yes I see. That should work
Thanks very much Rory.

Hmm, except that attempting to paint a texture hangs ZB. Everything I have tried with regard to creating and exporting any kind of image crashes ZBrush. Its very frustrating and without the ability to create displacement, alpha, texture or normal maps, my spanking new version 3.12 is all but crippled. I can’t use it for 2D painting because changing the doc size crashes ZB, so basically the only thing I can do at the moment is sculpt, but because other apps struggle working with such huge poly counts that is a fairly useless excercise too. Unfortunately attempting to meet a tight deadline is the worst time to discover all this!
Sorry for the rant but you have to admit after such a long beta cycle during which I have tried my best to be patient, that is really quite rubbish :S

Could you please describe the exact steps that you’re following?

Also, have you installed any plugins? If so, which ones? Have you tried disabling them? What are your Preferences>Mem settings?

Are your model’s UV points all unwelded? Just a shot in the dark…

Thanks both, I’ll try and work through those suggestions shortly. I don’t think the UV points would be unwelded - I unwrapped a very simple object in Cinema 4D and exported the obj to ZB, which is what I’ve always done.
Cheers
