Can't open ztool exceeding 4gb size

Hello everyone,

I am very curious if any of you are able to open ztools that are bigger then 4gb. I currently have this case were I can’t open any file that is bigger then 4gb.

It gives about 10 error popups when trying to load the ztool. I did try to open the files on 5 different machines

My best guess is that ZBrush saves corrupt versions when the file is bigger then 4gb. So you can still work with it and save. But as soon as you close ZBrush and try to open it fails. But this is an assumption.

My machine has 64gb ram. ZBrush 64-bit

Cheers,
Patrick

yea from my experience, zbrush have problems when files are over 4gigs.
to reduce filesize, you can try merging your subtools together then splitting them back out as individual subtools. this somehow reduces the filesize by quite an amount… not sure what data is storedin the subtools to cause the filesize to be that big in the first place.

thanks for the reply siumaiii

Reducing the file size wouldn’t be a problem. I was just totally unaware that this can happen. So I can’t open the files to reduce them. Seems I lost the work. Its weird though that ZBrush can quick save a ZProject file over 10gb but can’t open a file more then 4GB. Also working with the way over 4GB file was no problem. Everything run very smooth. So I really didn’t see this issue coming.

Disabling save history when saving will also reduce the file size.
