Can't find where zbrush is loading some matcaps from

Ok this is driving me crazy, there are two custom mat caps that zbrush is loading at startup that I want to get rid of and I can’t find them anywhere! They are not in zbrush/zdata/materials, zbrush/zstartup/materials or zbrush/zmaterials.

Anyone got any ideas?

try c:/user/public documents/Zbrushdata/Zstartup/materials ?

Don’t even have a materials folder in there :frowning:

It has to be in one of the 3 folders you mentioned. The name might be slightly different. Try process by elimination. Temporarily move the ones in ZBrush 4R7/ZMaterials first and restart zbrush to see if they are gone. Try the same with suspected culprits in the other two folders.

Good suggestion, getting rid of all those folder removed one but it still leaves “MatCap2” which i wanted to get rid of, as well as leaving some other materials. Are some of these materials hard coded in? I thought MatCap2 was a custom material but maybe it is a default one? Is it meant to look like how it does on my end though? Doesn’t have a preview either.

Thanks.

All the default ones are in ZData/Materials/Matcap folder except for MatCapRedWax which, I think, is hard coded and has to be there. Not a 100% sure on that one though.

Well I cut, paste every single material file in the zbrush directory and that matcap2 is still there as well as those other basic material xD

Might just do a fresh install

That will probably get rid of it. Make sure you delete everything in ZBrush 4R7 folder after you uninstall.

It’s still there O_o

I guess it’s meant to be like that? But what the hell is it for?

That’s weird! I don’t have it in 32 or 64 bit versions. Never have. Reinstalling ZBrush should have gotten rid of it.

Only other thing I can suggest is go to Users/Public/Public Documents/ZBrushData/ and look in every folder to see if it’s hiding in there anywhere. Even all the Plugin folders. When you uninstall ZBrush, the ZBrushData folder doesn’t get uninstalled so you can retain all your settings. Maybe that’s why you still have that MatCap showing up.

MatCap2 is part of the default installation. I don’t know its purpose but you’d best live with it. And zber2, it’s there in your palette.

DOH! forehead slap! :o
