Can't fill object material

I can’t assign any material to the fibermesh I’ve created. I was trying to simulate feather, so I assigned a feather texture to the fibermesh before I hit the accept button. I accepted the fibermesh and then I created a Gold like material. I need each subtools to have its own material. no problem with the body and other non-fibermesh objects. they keep the material I’ve assigned to them. But I’m totally desperate with the fibermesh feather. I click on the fill object button with the Mrgb button On, but nothing happens. What’s wrong? too many fibers? texture? I saw sth about the flat material somewhere in the forums, but I don’t know if this is the same problem… and honestly I didn’t understand what to do with that flat material.
