Can't export textures greater than 1024^2, part two: different user

[rant] Just one step from taking over the universe and the only thing that stands in my way is this VERY unintuitive user interface…oh, and the lack of the Displacement Exporter in OSX [/rant]

I’m a noob, computer saavy but I cannot for the life of me export a texture greater than 1024x1024. I saw the other post and I feel the issue wasn’t quite resolved. Because ZBrush represents a paradigm shift or “a new headspace” in image manipulation, I need preschool-level instructions.

So I painted this awesome color map on my model. I created a new texture with resolution of 8192^2, lowered the tool’s subD level to 1, reimported the UVs, created New Texture From Polypaint and/or Txr > Col (editor’s note: I’ve noticed that button names / locations and exact steps of workflow aren’t consistent between Windows and Mac. It’s maddening, especially when you’re trying to understand something new from an instructor that’s using a different platform. Maybe I should go back. Nah.)

I think this is where my problem is. I use the Clone Texture button to get the texture off the tool bar into the texture menu for export. [rant] Can’t I just get a simple “copy / paste” functionality?! [/rant]. As soon as I hit the Clone Texture button, texture menu’s dimensions revert to 1024^2 (cue the sound of ripping out remaining hair). Please help!!!

The problem is that you’re not understanding how the Mac version sets texture size.

Because the Mac version allows every SubTool to have its own texture, the Texture palette no longer has ANY bearing on what happens in your Tool palette.

Instead, go to the Tool>UV Map menu. There you will find a slider for the UV Map Size along with some handy preset buttons. Whatever size you set there is the size that all maps for that model will be created at.

Be sure to read the Mac 3.12 documentation addendum. It explains all this sort of thing. You can find it in my signature.

Thanks! There’s a boatload of information there.
