Can't displace from ZB 3.1 to Renderman for Maya

Hi guys,

Sorry if it’s been posted before, but i couldn’t find it using the search function.
I got a pretty annoying issue where i export my displacement from Zbrush ( Using 3.1 ) using MD 3 and it all exports fine but i can’t seem to get it to displace in Maya properly.
I am pretty sure my displacement settings are correct ( I’ve triple checked them with about 4 different sources ) as well as I’ve tested it with this ready made displacement shader script found here:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=50873&page=2&pp=15

The results i get is that the piece of geo seems to invert itself (normals face inwards bassically) pretty much and fatten out a bit … since my displacment settings are fine, i’m lead to belive it’s the map that’s causing the issue. I can’t use .tif files cause Maya doesn’t accept 32 bit .tif files, so i’ve used the convert to .map which seems to load with no errors, but can’t get any results …

Pulling my hair out over this one … any ideas?!

Thanks a bunch!

Marc

Regarding that fattening effect: Are you remembering to restore the base mesh prior to creating the displacement map? If not, the model will bloat because the map has been calculated for a version of the model that’s slightly smaller than the one that the map is actually being applied to.

The basemesh hasn’t been replaced, will try that out for sure!
Any idea about the actual displacement though ?

I can’t help with that one because I don’t use Maya or Renderman. :stuck_out_tongue: But hopefully someone more knowledgeable on those subjects will be able to help you out.

Thanks a bunch anyway mate! I’ll take any help i can get on this one … bangs head against wall
