Cant delete lower subd levels?

Hey all,
This may be a easy question but Ive never ran into this problem before. I have model with 6 subd levels and Im about to generate the bump map but the delete lower subd level button in the geometry tab is grayed out.

I had tried to play around hd geometry but I dont really know how it works…could I still be stuck in that mode that it wont let me delete the subd levels?

I tried hitting make poly mesh 3d in hopes of using the reconstruct subd levels but that doesnt seem to work either.

Any ideas??

once you do a HD subdivision you lose that ability, luckily the fix is easy. just go up in the tool pallette and hit clone, the new model should not have the HD level and now have your old normal subd levels back.

Hmm I cant seem to get it to work. I tried cloning on the lowest and highest subd level but it doesnt seem to change anything with regular subdivisions and the delete lower is still grayed out.

HD is only active when you hit preview mode (a), right? I suppose there isnt a way to just delete the hd levels?

After reading your post I read through the online zb document and found this;
DivideHD: Adds an additions level of HD subdivision to your model. This can only be done when Tool:Geometry:SDiv is set to its maximum value. Once you add HD subdivision levels to a model, you cannot add or delete ‘standard’ subdivision levels from that model.

Thats kind of a bummer… Id really like to be able to get a bump map via creating a displacement map for just the two highest subd levels, but I cant do that without deleting the lower subdivisions.

…well not too sure what I did but I got it to work. I think it was some combination that you suggested. Guess I need to play around with that feature more. Thanks for the help!:+1:
