Can't create Texture from Polypaint

All of the tutorials for creating textures from polypainting show a different pallette than mine, therefore I can’t create a texture from my polypaint (ie; There is no col>txr button, only txr>col (always grayed out)

My workflow…I sculpt first, create polymesh second, and third paint my polymesh with colorize turned on. Next I go to “Texture” and change both width and height to 2408 and click “new”. After that I look for col>txr and realize my pallette is different, and can’t go any further.

My tool pallette doesn’t look like everyone elses? (See jpg comparison) So I assume that my problem lies there somehow…or maybe I’m just an idiot.

…help please tools-1.jpg

I don’t have a “Texture” option in the “Tool” pallette. See JPG tools-2.jpg

That’s because ZBrush 3.12 has split the options from the Texture menu into more logical locations.

Use Tool>UV Map to define the size and UV mapping method for your textures. You won’t create a new texture in the Texture palette first anymore. Simply open Tool>UV Map and set the desired texture size.

Then use Tool>Texture Map to do anything that relates to textures. This includes applying a unique texture to each SubTool. And it also has the “New From Polypaint” button, which is a bit more intuitive than the older “Col>Txr” button.

After creating your texture, if you want to export it to another app you’ll need to use Tool>Texture Map>Clone Txtr. This moves it to the Texture palette so that it can be exported.

Thanks Aurick, you helped me again!

Thanks aurick… I’ve been scratching my head for 2 weeks wondering why my textures would only come out @ 1024x1024.

This is just the thread I need, gotta pick your brain…

Im using the trial (as I look, it says 3.1, NOT 3.12), is it that I dont have these options you speak of?!? I DO NOT have a Tool>UV Map as you speak of.

I cant even polypaint on a model unless I convert to a polymesh. But once I do convert it, I lose the geometry options (Im cranking up the polycount for better texture resolution) and the other Tool>Texture options become greyed out…

Also, Im using models that are already mapped, would that make a difference in my workflow?

Versions 3.1 and 3.12 have some big differences in the Tool palette. Since you’re using 3.1 you should read the online documentation found in my signature. There’s a big section on PolyPaint.

I went thru them, the sites tutorials and videos, alot of you guys “personal” sites, the ZBrush Wiki, alot of time elapse videos on YouTube and Veoh and still never found what I was looking for…

The problem is that I was using a figure that utilizes 2 seperate UV maps, and the figure needed to have its material grouping reworked, something I just never hit on…

This site >> here << explained in great detail the process one will need to go through when using the Daz3D Millenium figures and the newer releases of Poser figures that utilize 2 (or more) UV Maps…

In my opinion, she (he?!?) deserves a spot on your site tutorial bookmark list, from what Ive seen, there are ALOT of people who use Poser AND ZBrush and would benefit greatly from understanding that there are few more steps for “us” involved…

I actually got the texture and displacements exporting very nicely and am really enjoying this program…

I am very appreciative of the way you guys handle your site and resources, makes this program all the better… Thanks for your response, but youre not off the hook, Im only on day 25 of my trial =B

Peace and turkey grease, enjoy the holidays peoples!

I’m having this problem and I followed Audricks advice, once I’ve clicked “New from polypaint” it goes into indefinite load wheel mode.
Is the polycount (1.279Mil) causing the problem?
