Hi, I am trying to create a Normal Map in ZBrush 3.2 but I must be missing something. Here’s the instructions I found.
The problem seems to be that in Step#4 when I go into (Tools > Normal Map) and press the “Create normal Map” button the normal map is not previewed in the preview window like it does for the displacement map.
Shouldn’t the normal map preview in the little window so I can then press "Clone’ and export it from the Materials window?
My model already has UV’s, but do I need to do anything special to the mesh to create the normals after I draw it on the screen?
Normal Map
- Set the subdivision level to it’s highest level.
- Just to be safe, make sure both the “alpha” and “textures” are “off”
- Now from the top menu select “Texture” and then select the “New” button to create a new texture.
- Select (Tool > Normal Map), then from the options select: “Tangent”, “Adaptive”, “Flip Vertical”, then press the “Create NormalMap” button to create the normal map.
- Now from the top menu, select “Texture” then select “Export” and save the normal map as “name_normal.tif”.
You really get around between this forum and the Blender forum.
