Can't Assign Hotkeys (Middle Mouse)

I am coming back to ZBrush after not using it in a long time and the first thing I wanted to do while setting up my work space was assign the middle mouse button to zoom.

I follow the video below exactly and NOTHING ever happens?!?! It is so frustrating that I can’t get it to work and I have tried so many time and used different methods, it simply doesn’t work! As soon as I try and move my mouse wheel up nothing happens, so I move my mouse away and the info above say the “Hotkey Notes Operation Cancelled”.

I noticed another very odd visual change in my mouse cursor icon. It changes to 3 different states WITHOUT ever clicking on anything, just moving my mouse over different areas changes the icon from a hand, to a pointer, and then to a line with a down pointing arrow. This is very confusing and seems buggy, is this expected behavior of a cursor?

Thanks for any help, I really want to use the middle mouse button, I’ve never liked the way the unnatural default zoom has always worked.

I’m on OS X 10.11.6 using ZBrush 4R7

Thank you, I am familiar with that thread, but it is for 4R6 and specifically for PC, I’m on a Mac.

Oh sorry, but it works with 4R7, but since you are on Mac it’s no go…

And yeah, that’s weird because when I try to assign that hotkey it works… Don’t know what’s going on there. Perhaps it’s an OSX issue?

I’m starting to think it’s a bug, I can repeat the very simple steps with the same result, it doesn’t work. I’m now wondering if I should try deleting the app altogether and reinstalling, but that doesn’t make sense to me since it is already a new clean install on a fresh SSD. Driving me absolutely nuts, I almost want to install a PC version on my Win 7 SSD just to see if it is my machine or just OS X?!?!

Thanks for the reply I appreciate you offering the links and info!

No worries… And yes, give Windows a try…

And by the way, the 4R7 versions of the middlebutton plugin are located here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?183019-quot-Middle-Button-quot-Plug-in-for-ZBrush-4R6&p=1125321&viewfull=1#post1125321

Just wanted to mention that I have tested 3 entirely different mouse products. The first was with my Logitech wireless blue tooth. The second a wired Kensington. The third my Intuos 3 wireless tablet mouse. All three have middle mouse buttons, all three refuse to map that key to zoom. This is crazy, there has to be something conflicting between my OS X and Z Brush. I shouldn’t be the only one seeing this as I know how important is for users to want to change this, so now I am having to assume this is specific to my machine.

I made a support ticket because this is beyond me and needs more technical advise to remedy this. I can’t just abandon my OS preference just so I can get what should be a default function!?!

Machine Specs:

Mac Pro 5,1 (Mid 2012)
3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
System HD 500GB 6G SSD
AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB
OS X Version 10.11.6

Have you tried this?

edit: nevermind, i just saw that in your first post. sorry

I appreciate the offer to help, thanks anyway.

seems your not alone on this problem of being on a mac, not being able to use the plugin, and can’t change the keybinds to compensate. since same here. did you ever find a fix?
