I’ve just started using Zbrush. I have a model which has a very high subdivision level. I want to reduce this but in the geometry palette all of the buttons for adjusting the resolution are greyed out (they were operable during the construction of the model, though). Is there something that stops you using these controls?
Usually, that only happens if you have deleted all your subdivision levels. Did you have it on your highest subdivision level then click ‘Del Lower’ by accident then save it? See if you can ‘Reconstruct Subdiv’ in the Geometry subpalette to get lower Subdivs back.
Did you Dynamesh it, or anything like that?
I have deleted lower subdivisions (not by acident - it was suggested by the tutorial I’m working through). I have clicked on ‘Restore subdivisions’ - I didn’t know if I should, it just seemed logical. It doesn’t seem to do anything - the buttons stay greyed out. I have Dynameshed the model loads of times. I should add that I think the resoilution is incredibly high - the subdivisions are so tiny you can barely see them.
Dynameshing wipes out subdivision, hence not avaiable. Run zremesher at 1/2 if you can to reduce polys and give you something of a cage to work with, clone your model first to keep anything worthwhile such as paint/texture.
