Cancel retopology

this is actually a two part question, im new to zbrush so hopefully my issues are not too hard to fix

First: How do i cancel retopologizing? I found out that you can just edit the preexisting mesh which would save me alot of time but i cant seem to delete the zsphere thing and go back to my original base mesh.

Second: I started polypainting before retopologizing… Is there anyway to transfer that colour info to the new re-toped mesh?

You don’t need to cancel re-topology. Simply start again. When using the topology tool you are working on a clone of your mesh, not the original (which can still be selected in the Tool palette.

For an outline of the topology methods see here:

To transfer polypaint:

  1. Append your new topology as a subtool to your original mesh.
  2. With the new topo selected and at the top subdivision level, store a Morph Target.
  3. Use Tool>SubTool>ProjectAll to transfer the polypaint. Don’t worry about the sculpting being transferred as well.
  4. Press Tool>Morph Target>Switch to revert the sculpt but keep polypaint.

hey thanks for the fast reply, ill take a look and see if i can fix it tomorrow

Well im not sure the original mesh (before i started retopologizing) is in the tool palette, all i can see is a zsphere picture representing Skin_Tree_001 instead of the original mesh in the tool palette. [ATT=]tree.jpg[/ATT]

So when i load in the Skin_Tree_001 its got the clone with some retop'd mesh on it, i dont know how to get rid of the clone go back to the original model since its not in the tool palette. [ATT=]tree001.jpg[/ATT] This is probably not very clear, but its the best i can explain with my limited knowledge :) Its probably not a big deal, ill just go through with the retopology and transfer the poly painting. Thanks for you help marcus :)
