Hello dear all,
I am wondering that can ZBrush create Toon Shader (2 toons or 3 toons like 2D cartoon)?
I am working on a character that is going to render toon shader in maya, so I wanna see the effect when I am modeling, thanks!

Well, nothing will with 100% accuracy show you what you’ll be getting, but…

Will that do the trick?
OH MY!! thanks a lot loki74, very very helpful for me! thank you so much
I messed with that toon shader a bit to make edges a lightly visible and a hint more shading detail on the surface.:

Worked great on a toon character I did in zbrush, though, the main render was combined with other renders. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=55773&page=1&pp=15
Also, if you scroll down a bit on this page, there’s a download called kei toons, with several different shaders:

That’s great. I likes the toon shader, but I felt like it washed out too much of my detail, so this will be great.
these are so great! thanks so much.
One more question, I am wondering that how did you add the black outline at the edge of ur toon shaded model?
many thanks
If you are talking about that clown cat in the link I gave, KeiSawada made those.
You can also use MatCap to create a toon shader. Simply render a perfectly smooth white sphere that fills up a 1024 canvas. After that, (in either ZBrush or Photoshop) paint the shading effect on it that you want. I’d do it in Photoshop, because you can paint the toon shading on a separate layer and then blend that with the sphere render to keep a little detail-defining shadowing.
If you want a black edge around the objects, then the sphere should be slightly less than 1024 in size.
Once you have your shader painted, load it into the Texture palette in ZBrush. Now select a MatCap material. In the modifiers, you’ll find a patch that has the current shader map. Click that, and replace the current one with what you just painted.
Presto! Instant toon shader.
