Can someone explain to me how to render?

Here is what I’m trying to do. I want to render my character standing on a floor. Thats it.

Is it possible to have my character and floor stay as 3d objects that I can rotate into position and then render? Or am I just missing out on the general concept of how the renderer works?

Do I lay down my floor, and rotate it into position, then bring in my character and rotate him to fit on screen and on the floor? If this is the case, it just seems counter intuitive. When I do it this way, I can’t get the characters shadow to interact with the floor.

Is there a way to do this using layers?

If you don’t feel like typing out a huge reply, just point me to the section in the help file that pertains to doing this.

Thanks

Hi Mike. Don’t know if I can say anything technical to help but I’ve always found that if I make a floor (say, plane3d) and rotate it into position on layer 1 then do a head on layer 2, when rendered the shadows appear on the floor (plane). It should work but probably others can answer better than me.

Good luck and keep at it.

also, in the Render palette, make sure the “shadows” button is turned on, then try “Best render”

Shadow settings can be found in the Light palette – each light source has a button there which sets whether it casts a shadow or not

ctrl-mouseover will pop up help regarding the settings such as rays and aperture
