Can my computer support zbrush?

Hi,i’m pretty clueless when it comes to pc specifications.I’m not sure about my home computer if I would work at home.

I just want to know if my computer will be able to handle zbrush to make something like this --------> http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=060245

my specs…

System
windows xp version 2002

Computer…

Intel core 2 6420 @ 2.13ghz

2.00 Gb of Ram

Please guide me/recommend what I should do.

thanks/

i’ve been doing some reading…I think that my processor (intel duo core) supports 64bit.can anyone confirm this,or is there more to it?

If I get a 64bit OS and some ram,do you think I could get the most out of zbrush?

If so how much ram would I need.

Your feedback would be much appreciated (because I can’t wait to get started)

I don’t know much about PC computer requirements for ZBrush, but I do know that your computer could certainly handle the ability to create just about anything you could imagine.

I’m just winging it here, but I would imagine your machine could probably handle ZBrush models in the neighborhood of 3-5 million polygons with little to no trouble at all. 10-million polys might be pushing the envelope, but I’ve seen work just as good, if not better, made with fewer polys.

One of the remarkable attributes of ZBrush is the ability to process relatively large polygonal files with a modest amount of RAM, and your Core 2 duo certainly isn’t a barrier to the fun that is ZBrush.

So get in the game and make stuff, k?

that model I would consider multi-million so as this page says you’d want 4GB RAM mostly. your PC (aslong as its not extremely old) should be able to get 4GB relatively cheap.
your CPU is fine I have one not much stronger myself and it works a charm.

in short,
you can do good models as is,
but more ram will allow you amazing models such as that Hulk model.

Great, first of all,I did read the system requirements  ,but I wasn’t sure how to compare them to mine…and I didn’t want to go out and buy what it said there (cos i’m poor,or I will be after purchasing zbrush)

I can make something like the hulk model with 4gb ram on a 32 bit OS?

so whats all this about 64bit i’ve read? can my processor handle 64bit,and is it worth upgrading to that to get the most out of zbrush?.

I guess I can get more ram as suggested, and if i’m not satisfied,go to 64bit,but I would like to know if it would simply be as easy as changing to a 64bit OS and getting at least 6gb of ram,or is there allot more I need to know first?

feedback appreciated, and thanks for all your responses so far

your processor can handle 64-bit though its not worth upgrading, most programs are made to optimise with both 32 and 64 bit. atm 64-bit (after seeing benchmarks) is a very tiny difference in very specific programs.
64-bit won’t be worth the upgrade for quite some time.
I have a 64-bit system (only because I could XD) and I have noticed really no difference in comparison to 32.

so yeah RAM is pretty much all you need for now :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks so much for the feedback.

no prob glad to help :stuck_out_tongue:

the only thing thats funny ,is that, all the tutorials i’ve watched (gnomon) and some threads i’ve read here…say that 64bit is the way to go for multi million poly modelling, but if theres barely a difference …then meh.

I’ll see how it goes with more ram!

i’ve posted something in the main forum now…wohoooo! let it begin!

well last benchmarks I saw were for gaming, mathimatical formulae, media players, office programs, photoshop. it covered the lot and the only real difference was office programs by fractions of a second. upgrade if you can but its not needed.

PS looking at your sketchbook now :stuck_out_tongue:

the most ram that Windows 32 bit can access is 3 gig with a clip on boot. so if you want to be able to use more than 3 gigs check to see if your cpu supports http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366796(VS.85).aspx

what are you guys talking about…64 doesn’t change anything?!?

It changes everything if you multitask! I can give After Effects 16gb of RAM to work with, and then still have another 8 left over for the OS, browser, Photoshop, etc. Granted, I don’t use AE, but peeps at the office are all about it. But I do typically have modo, zbrush, ps, and a game engine or two open at almost all time, music in the background, a ton of windows open, etc…I notice the difference when I switch to my laptop, the major change in ram limits how much I can do at once. While, no, I can’t use all of those programs at one time. I don’t have to stop and wait everytime I want to use one though…add that 50-200 times per day and that adds up to some serious time.

my 2cents

Hey guys

i’ve upgraded from a 2gb 32-bit winxp,to 6gb on a 64-bit Win7

Its fricken excellent,I can do allot more!

However, because I started with 2gb of ram on a 32-bit system,i’m not sure if it just having 4gb on a 32-bit would have been the same, guess i’ll never know.

I can definitely hit a higher poly count, but how do I know how much ram zbrush is using?,and how would I go allocate some more to it if I ever needed too?

zbrush can only ever use a max of 4gb of ram.
preferences>mem>set that to 4096 if you have over 4gb in your system.
