Can I switch my MTL after Polypainting is done?

Let’s say…after I am done sculpting my model, I choose a base material (like a standard material or a matcap) and then polypaint my model. After polypainting is complete, can I choose to change the material later while still retaining the polypaint, or do I automatically lose the polypaint? I am asking because maybe after I am through with painting, I might want to see how a different material effects my polypaint.

Sorry if this is a stupid question… :o

Okay, let me try to clarify better… I have a model that was polypainted, but when I try to change it to a new material it doesn’t change the model at all. The only way it will change the model is to Color>Fill Object, which deletes the polypaint.

Hey there,

once you’ve filled your model with a specific material you will have to do the same thing every time you want to change the material. It won’t autoupdate anymore.

Now when you do a color>fill object, make sure that you only have M selected and not MRGB or RGB. Like this your Polypaint won’t be affected by the Fill Object command.

Hope that helps.

Maybe that is what I did wrong. I will check next time. Thanks

Does anyone know if you can dodge and burn color in zbrush?..just like photoshop? Or do you need to re-airbrush it manually??

Hey,

yes you can do that, but only in 2.5D. go to your tool panel and check out the 2.5D Brushes like the highlighter Brush.

Hope that helps.

P.S.: you could also use the projection master for that, which gives you total control over every single stroke you do.

Oh yeah, thanks again!
