Can I keep my layers after changing topo in Maya?

First off, thanks to Pixo for giving us the ability to change topo in an external program and reimport while preserving sub-d levels, this is great. I am wondering if it is possible to do this without sacrificing my layers? I have several blend shapes on layers, and need to make a small tweak to the topo in Maya. I was able to make the topo change and reimport with all my levels intact, however the layers have gone missing. Any thoughts? Also, when using this feature, Zbrush was crashing over and over again, until I deleted my highest level and all other subtools from the file, then it transfered the details with no problems.
