It would be nice if I could paint on my 16-bit tiff in Zbrush and touch-up those map generation errors. Can I do this in ZBrush4 yet? In other words can I import 16-bit tiff images and paint on them directly? Otherwise I have to spend $600+ on Photoshop just for this one task.
gimp or painter can also look at psd files
$300 or so I think for painter (I think), and $0.00 for gimp.
I believe Zbrush could always look at a 16bit Tiff, just not the 32bit ones. But I could be wrong on that account. I don’t mess with Tiff files, just psd’s…now if Zbrush could look at a freaking jpg or a png!!!
Gimp and Painter can’t read 16-bit tiff files. I can import a 16-bit tiff into Zbrush but only through the alpha pallet.
hmmm…
You can import jpgs into ZBrush. But for the alpha palette they must be grayscale.
Something you could try is:
-
Import the alpha into the Alpha palette.
-
Select a nice white material (other than Flat Color).
-
Set the Alpha>Alpha Depth Factor to the Displacement Intensity that ZBrush gave when the map was created.
-
Press Alpha>Crop and Fill.
-
Now use the Smudge brush (or any of the other 2.5D brushes) to correct the alpha.
-
Press Alpha>Grab Doc and then export.
