can i create a material from an image?

Lets say i render a sphere in modo with all the bells and whistles, can i just use that rendered sphere as a material in zbrush?

Also, what if i want some texture on my material? i can find no tutorials anywhere on how to do this. i know about the matcap tutorial, but that looks like its just taking colors, cant i create a material from an image exactly from the image?

Check out ZProject in your brushes palette.

huh?

anyone know if this is possible?

Render your sphere as a 1024x1024 image. The sphere should be just slightly larger than the image so that the edges just barely go outside it. Import that image into the Texture palette, then select a MatCap material. In the modifiers you can select the texture patch for the light map image and replace that texture with the one that you rendered. The MatCap will now change to match the other program’s material.
