can anyone get ZApplink working on OS X? It fails when trying to send to Photoshop.
Works well here CGBeige. Sending to and retrieving from PS CS5.
ok - maybe it’s my beta of ZBrush 4. I haven’t received my email yet.
I’ve not been able to make ZApplink work. It keeps crashing Photoshop EVERY SINGLE TIME! :td:
I know ZB4 ZApplink is still in Beta. Are you using CS4?
This is a public beta release of ZAppLink for ZBrush 4 (as stated in the download at Pixologic.com). Users who don’t mind occasional issues or some disabled features may begin using the beta now. Any problems can be reported through a Support ticket. Other users may wish to wait for the final release in the near future.
Thanks! I’ve had a ticket open for the past two days with this question (ID: UDD-222415)
Do you think I would have a better luck getting ZApplink to work if try it with CS5?
Thanks!
Since ZApplink is in alpha stages, please continue to report any issue (be as thorough as possible while describing) you may encounter via support.
The beta version has multiple views disabled and I had a few bumps along the way which I reported, but I was able to use the pc beta version for a single shot the other day without much fanfare.
Yes. My friend has a PC - Windows 7, and we downloaded the ZApplink plugin last night - to compare Mac Vs. PC issues, and they are both almost identical:
a) CS5 works as the external editor. CS4, no luck…
b) You cannot save multiple views - a message appears reming you that the plugin is in Beta, etc…
c) In the PC side, you can alter the image, add filters just like on the Mac side, but you can leave it open, go to dinner, watch a movie and come back to play around with the image… and then save it, retrieve it in ZBrush, and pick it up… BUT, on the Mac side, you send the image to Photoshop, you play with it for a little bit, but for some reason, if you spend “too long” in Photoshop and go back to ZBrush to retrieve it, ZBrush will have lost the link!
You then have to re-start ZBrush for it to recognize Photoshop as the program linked in ZApplink!
So, my suggestion for Mac users is:
-
In ZBrush, BEFORE you send the image to Photoshop, hide as much of your tool as possible…
-
Make a screen grab of your ZBrush document (SHIFT + Cmd + 4) and open it in Photoshop…
-
Do all the color work on the screen grab; tweaks, painting, filters, type, layer modes your heart can handle…
-
Flatten the file…
-
ZApplink the document to Photoshop…
-
Copy and paste the screen grab - where you did all the work, onto the ZApplink file, above layer 1…
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHANGE THAT LAYER’S NAME!
7) Merge down to layer 1 (Cmd + e). It will ask you if you want to “Preserve the layer,” hit “ok”…
-
Save the file…
-
Pray to your Gods that ZBrush didn’t get bored and forgot about the file, and retrieve the image…
-
Pick up the image and DONE!
Hope this helps until beta trials are over!
