Can A Sub-Tool Mask Another...? [Answered]

What I mean is if I have multiple sub-tools, and sub-tool 1 is lying on top of sub-tool 2, can I have the area that is sub-tool 1 mask out the area on sub-tool 2?

An example of what this would be for is a pair of pants and a thigh gun holster, the thigh gun holster masks out its area on the pair of pants, and then I can create fabric folds on the pair of pants and have them respect the thigh gun holster position.

Thanks

You can do it using the ZProject brush. Your model shouldn’t have any polypaint.

  1. Turn on Ghost transparency. The subtool you want to mask should be selected and the subtool you want to do the masking should be visible.
  2. Select the ZProject brush. Make sure just RGB is turned on.
  3. Paint over the subtool. The one you want masked will become black wherever it is covered by the subtool.
  4. Press Tool>Masking>Mask By Intensity (under Mask By Color).
  5. Turn off Tool>PolyPaint>Colorize to see the mask.
