Calipers or measuring?

Is there a way to measure things in Zbrush? My jobs will be output in physical form and have perimeters. I need to specify the size of things or compare size to size. I have seen some posts about individuals who have made measuring devices but these posts were a couple of years old, so I thought I might ask if there is anything new that does this sort of thing. Or anything anyone else was using.

Any if not, my wish list for Zbrush would include calipers.

ZBrush does not use real-world scaling.

One option would be to create your base model to scale in another app and then bring it into ZBrush. So long as you don’t rescale it in ZBrush, it’ll export out again at exactly the same size it came in at.

Another option would be to create your own reference objects that you can use to represent scale. You could even use those as SubTools for your project.

Another option would be to use a grid that has the desired scaling. This could be used as a background image or applied to the ImagePlaneX model.

With the latter two methods, you’ll still need to scale the object to the desired units upon export. But all of its elements would be the appropriate scale relative to each other because that’s how you built them in ZBrush.

Hope that helps.

(Also, 3D Print Exporter has a function that lets you export to a specific scale.)
