Busty bob

Really works with the hat. Great work thus far. Love the ‘Malibu Stacey’ title!

Thanks for the comments.

kikiyawa: Its rendered in mentalray with the mentalray SSS

abyss103: I love Goon (I posted a Goon head earlier… not great tho:() I love that era and my film is based in the 20s… cool, scary time. Im not quite sure what you mean about the shoulders but everyone has something to say about them so I should look into it next revision. You are dead right about the collarbone… hadnt seen it before.

Cheers for the feedback

fantastic! I love the render with the hat, very realistic!

A bit of texturing.

Now a stained and dirty white tank top and a cigar and he’ll be rockin’.

The only thing I don’t like is the shadow hiding his eyes. Other than that it’s going pretty good.

Some of the anatomy looks a bit strange but I realize it’s stylized and it’s still working for you though. Definantly a good job so far!

Youre right about the cigar, but no tank top, just a pair of braces… and legs.
Yeah, Im keeping him fairly stylised and, as the he’ll be playing poker in a dark smokey, top-lit room, I’ll keep his eyes hidden.

I am interesed in what people think, good or bad… I’m having issues with the UVs and displacement (as in the last still) so Im not overly happy atm:(, will try and work it out today.

Thanks again

What exactly are the problems with the displacement and UV’s? Need to post some pics for examples? Just curious.

Thanks Kypher for your interest,

Basically, I get better results using AUVs for displacement but run into all sorts of problems with bumps and textures (Im using Maya, and usually turn off quadratic sampling to stop AUV seams appearing, which is fine for stills but a little dangerous when rendering animation). For the last image I layed out the UVs so to texture, but the quality of the mesh after rendering is no way near true to the the ZB sculpt and Im getting all sorts of artifacts (unlike the image before).

So it seems to be a UV problem.

Now Im looking into applying 2 UV layouts to my mesh (AUV for disp and Layed out UVs for bump and texture)… but Ive never tried this before, and dont know if its possible. I’m going to do a couple more test first to see if this is the issues.

I will try to get some renders to show the issue a little better.

Thanks again, and apologies for the length response:)

I had a break and sorted some stuff out.

Just reworked the mesh, and did some tests with displacements. I happier with the general look now.

A bit of relighting and SSS. He needs some detailing still, but will move onto his hands and the rest of the scene.

Interesting character. The manboobs bother me a bit. They seem to just stick out of his chest rather than hanging out. Meaning, that there should be a fold at the bottom of the breasts, where the breast skin overlaps the skin over the chest. I think there’s a bit of inconsistency with the lack of love handles the manboobs and the belly area. They all look great individually but they dont seem to me to be part of the same character. I think this is a really good work it doesn’t seem to flow to me in terms of consistency. I’m not too sure how to correct it, but maybe you can try to lessen the fat on the ribs and increase it a bit more on the sides. Maybe if I could see the legs it would make more sence. Keep us posted, I’d like to see where this goes.

Loos like a resident of Innsmouth!

Yeah, I think man boobs bother us all a bit:)

Thanks for the feedback. I dont want make this guy too flabby, a total fold in the skin would age him a little too much. His hips and legs will be hidden behind a table.

Shoulders and arms need more work, as these test show.

Just a simple rig, this character is only in the film for about 8 secs so Im not going over board… already spent to much time on him, but will be using his base mesh for the main character so I want to see if it work, and how to fix any probs… hence much feedback may not appear in updates of this guy but will be used for the final guy.

The Shadow over Innsmouth is great… maybe not a compliment tho:/

Cheers

I think this looks much better  great work, keep us posted. I like his attitude and pose.

It was a compliment alright! This fella looks quite creepy

Needed a break from work…

Just testing out layouts, lighting and colour.

Also created a Blog for the project I’m working on. Most of the stuff on it is animation of models I have already posted here. Keep in mind they’re all tests, not finished elements.

Cheers.

he looks great animated good work:+1:

On the monitor I first saw post#22, I couldn’t work out what direction this was going to take with : a nude man, a piece of wood and an Ikea allen key.
Now it all becomes clear!

his got a corner in the right shoulder.

Thanks for the replies,

Yeah, he’s very campy at the momment, was kind of fun to animate him that way. He will have high-pants and braces to cover him a little, and will be animated in a more menacing way.

As for the point on his shoulder, the character will be re-rigged later, just a test. He still needs to be completly textured as well… and many other things:)

Cheers again
