Wow. I’m no ff fan even though i have played a bit on 1 or 2 of them. But like the texture job on the handle. Nice work :+1:

Cheers
Brett

Really like the design, clean lines of the blade. The blade texture is very neat. Would the scale of the sword justify the handle size, it just seems a little thin or is it just me. :+1:

It’s not just you, the scale IS quite exagerated-
you have to be animated to use one of these

thanks for comments Brett+Wendex

wow that is one awesome sword!!! great design and texturing. are you going to make a FF model to weild that bad boy!?

I’d love to eventually- but they did such
an amazing job in the last movie… hard to
touch. I’d want to be working at a level
where I had something to offer before I
try to take that on, so it may be a while.

I’ve got 3 other buster-type sketches I’m
going to develop first  I’m running zBrush 3
through parallels on a macbook pro
so am trying to tackle smaller scale
projects at the moment.

thanks!!

until Beowulf came out, FF Advent Children was the best CG movie out there. But ADvent was such a great great execution of CG Artistry. It would be pretty hard to top that, but you are off to a great start with that sword. If you could post some pics of the stages of your modeling that would be nice. Im sure a lot of people would love to know how to make such beautiful swords.

Hey sure thing!
First some sketches, just trying to find a sihlouette that
I think is interesting or cool construction ideas…
Then I scanned them and did something a little tighter in
illustrator (I like the way the illustrations look, so I
do this a lot after sketching). After that was basemesh…
I printed out the basemesh and tried sketching the
details over it. Then UVs, and out to zBrush. This is
the second thing ever in z3 for me, actually just got
an intel box so I could run it- anyway, I’ve got a couple
of the texture maps I made here too… everything is 4k,
the blade relief is all illustrator, bump map in maya -
if anyone wants some source files let me know.
this is a lot of text and images, so I hope its helpful
to someone!

Great redesign, beautiful render. I would suggest more dings and scratches. The texture on the handles suggest that this Buster sword has been put well to use but the rest of the sword looks brand new. You should give it a past. Keep it up!

u know I was thinking the same thing…
the blade could really use some work, I didn’t
spend much time developing the material, and
with the texture map ratio I feel like it’s
losing a lot of the detail in the engraving.
On the other hand I kind of like the contrast
between new/machined vs. worn/torn, it
almost reaches a balance to me…
Guess I need to cultivate my inner perfectionist
and bite the bullet huh? :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks lizzle-

Great work. I like it. thank for share this. :+1:
