Bump map

How can I get a bump map from the difference between 2 layers(for example my base mesh and wrincles)?

with a displacement map, delete your lower subd levels (the ones that are not useful for you), and generate it from that mesh, will give you the kind of detail you are looking for.

I deleted all my lower levels and tried to create a disp map from different layers.
It doesn’t work. The map can’t be created.

Are you using the disp map of the tool subpallete or the multi-disp plugin?

Zbrush 3.1 or 3.5 ?

3.5, the disp map of the tool subpallete

Does it generate an error (somethig like “The displacement map cannot be created”), or it just don’t generate it?

In zbrush 3.5 the displacement maps are not shown in the alphas, but in the tool subpallete. Check there first…

It doesn’t generate errors, It doesn’t do anythig when I press create disp map.I’ve cheked everywhere((

yes iunderstand, and have learned that making displacements with zbrush is sometimes hit or miss and kind of tricky.

after you create your displacement map, they go to the alpha palette. there you cann make it a texture or export it from the alpha menu.

I can make a disp map from the higher level, but I can’t do it from another layer(when I have only one level-the highest)

One way to generate displacement from highest is to go to your highest subd level, delete all lower levels .Then turn on layer you want to bake out as bump map.

(Otherwise if you do not subd your mesh with layer turned on you will get weird results.)

Then subd your mesh. This will go over zbrush poly limit, but just up it for this case. Then you can go down in subd levels and generate ur 32 bit or 16 bit. Result [![test.jpg|824x722](upload://a1wd2fryx1QCuwcypq3Mxpg7GwB.jpeg)]

Btw you might not be able to bake with Adaptive or samples turned on, might get a crash.

You don’t have to go divide 1 above your already highest level. It’s just best if you can, since it will pull more bump map like details from your mesh.

Also if you want to overlay your bump map details correctly, you need to do so using grayscale mode in PS. Otherwise you will blow out those details with every layer you add.

Thanks, I’ll try.
