Bug or feature ? Found workaround.

INSERTING COLORED (polypaint) GEOMETRY

Hi community,

i found out something i´m not really sure about if it´s a bug or a feature.

Introduction:

  • I started with a sphere.
  • turned it into a polysphere3d and activated dynamesh
  • i activated polypaint with colorize and added some little color strokes

then, when i start with a new sphere - same settings like above
and want to insert the sphere (with the color information) into the new one
i simply switch to

brush - insert sphere brush and then under modifiers i change the mesh insert preview
to my colored sphere.

now the strange thing that happens:

if i insert the colored sphere (yes with rgb on) and i remesh it
the color information won´t be transfered to the new one.

now my question (i actually found a workaround):

I just turn OFF colorize for a second.

the i add the new sphere with rgb on (not mrgb !)

after dragging i switch to mrgb and then turn on colorize on again.

this works.

I´m on a mac with osx (sl) and i wonder if this is a bug ?

Is there anybody who can try this please ?

I mean, its not a big deal but i just wanted to let u know.

Cu Cosmic

Thanks for the work around and this definitely seems like a bug. I’m using the Insert Mesh brush with a polypainted ztool to insert a lot of meshes and am having similar issues. If I have colorize on as I go, there is no polypaint info at all on the meshes. If I turn off Colorize though like you said and throw down all my meshes, and then turn on Colorize afterward all the polypaint shows up. Crazy and annoying since I can’t see the polypaint as I go. Anyone else having this issue? I’m planning on using this technique a lot and am disappointed it doesn’t work cleanly.

Yeah this is definitely a bug they have to fix. Glad there is a solution though, thanks!
