bryan silvas brushes keep crashing zbrush 3.5

every time i use the brushes he made for 3.1 eventually freeze up zbrush is there any reason why this may be happening? he posted up these wonderful brushes up on the forums some time ago if anyone wants to test this out.

Plug ins made for 3.1 don’t work in 3.5. The 3.5 versions are being produced.

I imagine it is the same situation for any custom brushes made for 3.1, as they access functions that may have been changed in 3.5

You’ll have to either stick with 3.1 for those brushes for now, or wait until Mr Silva releases some updated versions.

i use some of his brushes all the time and am not getting a crash when using them, which one in particular is causing you issues?

falloff extra sharp. use it awhile on a highres mesh eventually it will freeze up.

ok gave it a shot on a 8mil res mesh, is that high enough? no problems cept its slow. it’s hard to troubleshoot from just playing with it for awhile, i mean how long? what are your system specs and preferences set at?
lastly all i really see in this brush is a specific alpha, low focal shift and useage of lazy mouse.
maybe its the lazy mouse, try setting up the standard brush with the same lazymouse settings and try, if that doesn’t cause it, try the standard brush with the same alpha and focal shift. do some tests.

If you still have 3.1 installed, go through any custom brushes you want to bring into 3.5 and jot down their properties and any alphas they’re using. There’s nothing stopping you from updating them yourself

its the lazy brush freezing up. watch what happens when u do a bunch of short fast strokes like if u were sculpting a beard.i promise u it will freeze up.

im useing a intel core 2quad cpu q9550 2.83 ghz 8 gigs of ram

Had the same issue…recreate them from scratch…check one of the lazy mouse settings, it’s like 0.0095 don’t remember, I guess it’s the culprit.

Yes indeed. Had the same thing. Lazy Mouse is crashing 3.5 for a lot of folks. Another thread points to the issue here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=76196&highlight=ram

I am creating a support ticket, if you’re having the same issue PLEASE do the same. If enough people have the issue and report it, it’s likely to be addressed.

Just wanted to say I’ve been having the same issues and after discovering through the forums that lazy mouse was the culprit, I adjusted the steps to a more reasonable value, saved a copy and I have not had a brush related crash yet in 3.5r2 using the new copy. Hope this helps anyone still experiencing custom brush crashes.

Since this thread got re-activated why not post my finding as well, I totally agree and have noticed this with regular frequency. I use the Lazy mouse like a madman and I thought that zbrush was just more unstable with this version but as it turns out I would say pretty much every crash I’ve had in the last couple weeks was while I was using a brush with lazy stroke turned up. At the beginning of a stroke usually when it happens if that’s any help.
