Brushes and Custom UI not working correctly

With the new 4.2 brush reorganization, I’m a bit baffled as to how to keep fave brushes I like on the bottom shelf with a custom UI. The custom UI doesn’t seem to stick on reopen. Now brushes already in the standard UI brush palette sticks in custom UI’s but brushes that are not and are buried in Lightbox do not.

For example, if want to have one of the Planar brushes on the bottom shelf, say PlanarRect I do the following:

  1. It’s not available in the brush palette so I have to get it via Lightbox > Brushes > Planar > Planar Rect.
  2. I then enable Config > Enable Customize
  3. Go to the Brush menu, select the PlanarRect brush then Ctrl + Alt click dragging it to the bottom shelf.
  4. Config > Store UI
  5. Save custom UI
  6. Close Zbrush
  7. Reopen Zbrush, brush is gone from UI
  8. Manually loading the custom UI saved file yields the same results, the brush is not in the custom UI.

:o Can anyone else confirm this? Perhaps I’m doing something wrong?

EDIT: Hmmm ok I figured it out but this shouldn’t work this way…the only way is copy paste the brush from
Pixologic\ZBrush 4R2\ZBrushes folder to the Pixologic\ZBrush 4.2\ZStartup\BrushPresets then repeat the steps above. :td:

It is working correctly. Zbrush loads certain brushes at start-up. These are stored in the directory you noted. The ui also loads at start up so only brushes loaded at start can be placed in the ui. Light box is used for browsing other brushes only when you need them. This helps zbrush to load as fast as it does. The same goes for alphas, materials, etcetera.

I’m having the same issue but not with the brushes. More with custom UI buttons not being back where I place them within my interface. The ones in particular are my store/delete/switch morph target buttons and my subdiv slider. I place them where I want them, then upon reopening zbrush they’re not there. :frowning:

Doesn’t solve disappearing brushes on my machine… did bring my Undo hotkey back though. Go figure~
