bridging between open mesh gashes

Is there a way to bridge a gap between a loop of two holes as seen below?

you could try exporting as obj. then reimport using import menu in tools…select the polymesh tool and it will be visible

then turn weld .01 or try merge.

if you need the polys there then you will need to take it to another program that will let you create or add the polys you need.

Thanks, I was affraid that I’d have to bridge in another program. This would be an awesome implementation for polymodeling.

I was looking everywhere, and when Aurick doesn’t reply, it usually means it isn’t possible, or I’m asking a silly question.

Forget what I said. I’ve found a solution. You can extrude another loop to make the polygons, and do what you said, export the tool as obj, load it up and weld the 8 verts.

hey great thinking…wouldn’t have thought to extrude another then do the weld thing…would have thought it wouldn’t work but i see it does!!!

does it hold up well under subdivision?

Yep, it gets smooth across the weld location without any tugging. The ring image above is subdivided 3 times I think.

With this technique, it wouldn’t be hard to make an element such as brass knuckles.

I’ve come across another technique to quicken this type of modeling. If you want the points that are welded to be close as possible to ensure that they weld, move them close to each other, then use pinch. It will bring the verts together.
