BPR Problems

Hey zbrush masters, I’m really having some trouble with rendering. I’m using default settings, just creating a couple of LightCap Lights and hitting BPR. I keep getting this weird stepping in the light. Any ideas? I just don’t get it… I’ve re-installed by the directions of one of the Zbrush Staff, and this has not helped. Thanks!

change your material to basic and see if that fixes the problem

Already tried. It doesn’t seem to be the material.

It’s basically because the model is low resolution - those are the polygons showing. You can improve the render by turning on SmoothNormals in Render>Render Properties (and also in the Tool>Display Properties>BPR Settings for each subtool). But you may also need to adjust the Render>BPR Shadow settings.

And you chopped off the version of ZBrush you’re using…Is it ZB4R6 P2? The number at the top isn’t your serial number or anything important; your version is sometimes the culprit(not in this case AFAIK).

I uninstalled zbrush 4r-something and downloaded the most recent version - both are giving me bad results.

And its not the model res. I’ve tried this same thing with other models, each one I’ve looked at the wire frame to see if it was just following the mesh, like you suggested, but it’s not.

This pic also shows the problem.

Thanks guys for taking the time to check this out! I really appreciate it. I’ve spent hours fussing with different settings to not progress.

just out of curiosity try “best” from the render palette just to see if it happens then too.

it has to be the light cap. what else is left? delete the lightcap, switch to a basic material and see if it still happens.
if it doesn’t then you know you have to make adjustments to the lightcap.

“best” does seem to work fine. the problem is the light caps and the other basic lighting pallet when using BPR… I just can’t seem to figure it out. I’m using the default settings and it’s still going wacky.

Try this project. It includes a LightCap. Just render it with BPR “out of the box”. See how it compares with the render I get.

Any chance any of you guys can take a screen shot of a basic lightcap setup on your end so I can rule out if possibly if it’s a glitch in my program, or maybe hardware or something? A two light setup seems to be when the issue shows up the most. thanks!

thanks Marcus - the link doesn’t seem to be working however. I just get a “problem loading page”. suggestions?
