BPR, Lightcap & Background Image... [Answered]

Is it possible to perform a bpr render on a normal background image, ie. one that is not panoramic ?

If I create a backdrop in Paintstop and fill the layer with the background, bpr seems to completely ignore it. I have also tried to use the background setting in Lightcap, however this is expecting a panoramic image. I could create a 3D plane and paint the contents onto this, however I was wondering if there was a quicker way ?

Many thanks,

Clayton

You can use the Image Plane plugin:

  1. You need to have a Background set up first, so press Light>Background>Create if you haven’t already done so.
  2. You should NOT have a model in Edit mode. If you have, turn off Edit and clear the canvas (Ctrl+N).
  3. Select the image you want to use in the Texture palette.
  4. Press the Texture>Image Plane>Load Image button. The image will be loaded into the canvas.
  5. Press Shift+S to snapshot the image to the background, switch to Draw mode (to get rid of the gyro) and Ctrl+N to clear the image plane.

Your image will now be part of the background.

Fantastic !!!

Cheers Marcus - that’s exactly what I wanted.

That’s great.
It’s also great to have a reference as background. Unfortunately, try to move an element (W,E,R), this background image conflicts badly.
Is there a way to have a neutral background image as reference?

The Image Plane plugin is designed for reference images - simply load an image when you have a polymesh in Edit mode and the image will be loaded into the background. If you store the image and model position using the Image Plane>Reference Views you can swap between different images and model positions.

OK,
try to transpose now, w,e,r. Hold shift as you drag
see my point?

No, I don’t see what you mean. There’s an issue with the background being ‘erased’ but that is a refresh issue and is easily remedied by clicking on the background. But that doesn’t happen when using the Light>Background method, so I don’t know what your referring to. Perhaps you could post an image and explain a bit more?

Transpose tool snaps to the background image…

OK, I think I’ve found the issue you’re talking about. Turn off Perspective and the behaviour should stop. Also, for ease of use with the actionline, you may like to turn on Preferences>Transpose>Align Actionline to Axis.
