Booleans not working in ZBrush 2020

I just upgraded to ZBrush2020 today and have found that Booleans don’t appear to be working. Live booleans appear just fine, but when I either use the “Boolean Folder” command or “Make Boolean Mesh” command the normal message of “Union remeshing in progress…” appears but after it is done processing a union mesh doesn’t appear anywhere in the project.

Hi @Guslado

“Make Boolean mesh” works for me on Windows (Be sure to specify platform when reporting issues). Remember, it creates an entirely new tool called something like “UMesh_Subtoolname_1” in the tool palette, which you have to find and select. It does not create a new subtool in your active tool.

That said, there have been installation issues reported before on certain platforms that resulted in this functionality breaking. If you cannot get this to work for ANY tool, in ANY file, in an entirely new program session, you may need to contact Support and make a ticket. They can help you either troubleshoot your installation issue, or identify a program issue on certain configurations.

Nothing was popping up in the tool palette. I also tend to use the “Boolean folder” option which does drop a new subtool into the active tool and turn off visibility for the folder the Boolean mesh was created from, but that also isn’t happening for me with 2020.

This is happening for me too on Windows 10. Nothing is created, the message “Union Remeshing In Progress” appears for about 10 seconds and then disappears with no progress bar ever shown, and no new tool created. Same result via either the folder method or the Make Boolean Mesh Button. I’ve been having to export to obj, and import into Zbrush 2019.1 and boolean there.

Doesn’t work on any file, even new session with basic primitives. Add/subtract/difference doesn’t matter.

After pressing the boolean button, and while union remeshing message is still being displayed, you can move around or re-scale subtools or scroll the side panel with no lag, which seems to indicate nothing at all is happening.

Just adding some data points here.

I should have mentioned this above as well, I am also using Windows 10.

To be clear, posting information to this thread will not contribute to an issue being fixed. This is a community forum. You need to get your information into the hands of the developers via support ticket.

How does one go about opening a support ticket?

Pixologic Support.

I Had the same problem. I fixed mine by disabling my windows controlled folder access under the windows ransomware protection.

Hi JCGayas ,
Would you give us few details on how to do that please? Thanks,

I had the same problem, I will wait for answer of support

@Bento_Ribeiro, when I ran into this issue we found that it was because I had ZBrush installed on my D drive instead of my C drive. For some reason when it was running a boolean function it would reference the C drive and error out. Reinstalling it on the C drive fixed the issue.

SPYNDEL’s explanation is true. After baking the boolean. use “Append” to add the basked mesh into the subtool set. They usually begin with “UMesh_”
