Blocky Zoom Ins

Hey, all.

New to Zbrush.

Have a really dumb starting question.

I imported a fairly high rez OBJ file and when I zoom in on it it looks blocky even when I raise subdivisions several times to make it smooth.

This is an organic creature type model which is naturally very smooth in Maya.

How the heck do I work on the face, because when I zoom in on it everything looks so incredibly blocky? The resolution does not seem to update.

Is there a setting to change this?

I suspect you’re zooming the canvas, rather than scaling the model.

The canvas is like a picture in Photoshop. Zooming in will pixelate what you see.

The right shelf of the interface has upper and lower sections. The upper section controls the canvas. The lower section only becomes available when a model is in edit mode, and controls the model itself. Use those buttons instead of canvas zooming.

If you continue to have trouble, we’ll need to see examples.

Thank you very much.

I thought scaling was physical scaling like in Maya.

Ok, let me ask another noob question and then I’ll try to experiment with all this stuff.

Where is the physical model scaling in Zbrush 3?

do you want to actually change the size of something?
or just zoom in on the object?

tool>deformations>size = actual change in geometry based on values
use the transpose tool with scale on (e) to scale something visually

to zoom in on an object… (camera controls)
right shelf>scale

on the canvas
alt (hold) + left click and drag (hold), then release alt and up and down (forward, back) will zoom in on an object.
(f) will frame the object (you can also double click on scale, or alt double click the canvas)

I hope this helps

Ok, thank you.
