Blizzard Contest: "Undead Tuaren"

HI all,

Here’s my first post. I just wanted to show my efforts for the Blizzard Contest, Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it submitted due to the site not working. In any case I did enjoy making it. I’ll be wearing the final image on a tee-shirt at the next Gnomon ZBrush user group meeting for fun.

This looks great, sorry to hear about the problems with submission. Your sculptures on your homepage look amazing also. Great work all around

Can we see some meshes??? (skulls, creature, sword, anything really :))

OH GREAT NEWS… Art Contest Deadline Extended
Due to a drastic increase in contest submissions during the last weekend, the contest submission form was temporarily unavailable, preventing some artists from submitting their work for this year’s Blizzard Art Contest. In order to give all artists who put in a great effort and worked until the very last minute a fair chance, we are extending the submission deadline to 11:59PM PDT on Wednesday, September 20, 2006.

Really like this concept. I’d do the body a little more withered though, but thats just me. Never mind the contest. Save it for your demo reel:cool:

Very nice! Kinda makes me think of Bloodthirsters from Warhammer. I like the dynamic pose. I was lucky Blizzard extended the deadline too.

Hey all,

Thanks for letting me know about the extension, I was able to get it in this time around! X-titan wanted to see some of the work I did for it so here’s my first attempt.

Just wanted to mention I keep the model in zsphere mode during the sculpting process so I could fine tune pose wile I sculpt. the sculpt was done with the symmetry turned off.

Cool!

awsooooome

Here’s some more work on the Spine and loin-cloth. I keep the vertebrae’s separated so it would be easier to work on. Once it was where I needed it to be I just closed the gap to compress the spine.

I’ll have the assembly of the Spear later.
By the way, anyone know when blizzard’s going to post all the entries?

Great job!

It’s this kind of work (simple zpheres turining into cool characaters) that makes me want to buy zbrush. I’m loving that pose. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Awesome, inspirational (even) screen shots!

Thanks for sharing.

Very good work, wow.

looks cool, that spine is great.

Awesome work man! And lovely of you to give us the step by step. Thanks for sharing!

Hi all,

Thanks again for the Kind words. It’s a huge inspiration to continue creating and posting here at ZBrushCentral. I’ll keep posting the progress of this model but I also wanted to share my finished submission I did for the Blizzard Contest before I’m out for the weekend.

Undead Tauren, Final_Small.jpg

I was planning on making it fully armored with a large battle seen with Gnome Shooting arrows at it but I did what I could in the time I had available. I would have to say there was around 40+ hours put in to this piece with close to half in rendering it and coloring it in Photoshop due to being my first time having to color a model. Most of the 3D stuff I do gets turned to a real model so this project I learned allot from. Overall I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Awesome, love the character and pose.

Though it’s too late now, my only suggestion would be to dirty/age/damage the accessories a bit, I’d imagine an undead creature wouldn’t have shiny new stuff

Hello Articus!
First of all: Congratulations, you model is excellent!! I have seen a lot of blizzard fan-art in the past, yours is one of my favorite!
The Model just looks awesome, the pose is great, very dynamic!
To be honest, i alomost like the model more than the finished work… i dont know why.. maybe because it looks a bit... flat... in a way. How have you rendered this? I guess the lightning and the rendering could be better... But well, im new to ZBrush… maybe ZBrush just CAN’ T render it better. I don’t know. But i think it probalby would be better to render it in an other Software-Packige such as Cinema4D, Lightwave, MAX with MentalRay… whatever.
But as i said: I’m new to ZBrush, i don’t really know.
Anyway, the model is GREAT, and i really hope you win something at the contest!!

It would be awesome if you could post more “work progress” pictures, specially of the modeling and sculpting of the Beast itself. That could help me do learn how to sculpt and model in ZBrush.
Thanks very much!
And yeah, please let me know how you rendered that… ZBrush oder External…
Kind regards,
Oli4D

P.S. i^m sorry for the bad english, its unfortunaly not my native language :-).

Awesome stuff!
The final render with the blur looks less good than the previous render in my opinion. Great modeling though.

Dynamic position but what the beast is not compltly colored?
Have happy Zbrushing! :sunglasses:
Ps your spine & vertebra are very good :+1:
