Whats going on Twitch!?

Yeah i completely agree with you. That just looks like texture and not feathers. I am looking to do something very simple. I dont want to spend hours on a feather.

Yeah the material is very very temporary. ha!

Just got the medallion added. I sort of like it, its probably just the material that is bothering me. Also i wont be modeling the feathers. Sasquatch is a hair and fur generator and im going to use that to do the feathers.

I’m not too wild about the material either, I think the bas material might not be the problem but more the fact that it looks rustic and hand molded but the material is too pristine. I would personally bring in some texture, maybe number 22 or 28, to make it look more worn and used.

As usual you are correct Twitch. Im gonna try that and post an update tomorrow. hopefully ill have the whole trinket put together by then. This is a very challenging project but i cant wait to see where my talents lead when i am done.

Well, I went to an art school. Art schools don’t teach you a damn thing, but they do make you a good critic.

…I am going to get a lot of heat from that. Generalizations are bad, but they’re also funny.

HAHA!! I know what you mean about art school lol. I am thankful to have had a great art teacher in high school who taught us so much, that when we went into college we were so more advanced than anyone else in our classes.

I was gonna go into art school for computer animation but i taught myself in three months instead ha! Ive only been in the game four months. Thank God i didnt go for that 4 year, 70k dollar “education”.

I got out fairly quickly, but it was still a lot of wasted time and money. Luckily I’m back to doing it the right way, that being self-teaching.

Though I haven’t figured out how to do it in Zbrush yet, you can change the material, right? Maybe a little less specularity. It seems just a bit too shiny to me. I think the texturing made a big improvement though.

Oh yeah you can change the material, and make your own under the material tab at the top. Try it out, its a whole lot of fun.

Well i reworked the base mesh for the medallion and i like this one much better.

I still says the metal is too shiny, and I’d like to see some texturing on the jade (if that is jade, still needs texture even if it isn’t). Everything can use some texture to change it up a bit and add greater realism.

im not sure what type of stone it is. i looked up some jade stones last night and they have a glass like quality. didnt see any of those default materials in zbrush. plus im just mocking all this up anyway. itll probably take me a month to get all the colour and material work done lol. But right now i am happy with the pace its going. one piece a night isnt bad. i figure i would start with all the jewelry first so i could get it out of the way and start working on that wonderful figure for the end. The medallion will be done tonight. then tomorrow night i can work allllllllllllllll day and hopefully will be done with the sword by then.

Aside from the texturing, I see no problems with the sword. It has the primitive style of the illustration and looks stylistically sound.

Hey Twitch!

Is there too much texture? Or does the texture just not make sense?

I mean to say material, but now that you mention it, the texture does have a few issues. Most notably that it seems to have an overall similar texture. In the illustration at least, it appears to be in a sort of scabbard with a leather covering and a metal tip. Right now it looks like everything is made of the same material. I’d say the texture you have at the tip is fine for what it is made up of, but the leather part should have little to no texture, and texture should simply be suggested via adding some irregular elements in the coloring.

Also, the handles is wrapped with rope, so you should probably emphasize the knots in the rope more to illustrate that.

Ahhh ok, i gotcha. Yeah, again, the materials i put on these items are in NO WAY finalized. I probably wont work on the materials or colours until everything is mocked up.

I do agree though, it does all look like the same texture. i will soften up the leather a bit and im sure that will take care of that problem.

Here is an update. Spent a few hours on the body and i still have a lot to pose and fix. There are a few anatomical mistakes but i will correct them.
