big problems with normal map

guys can anyone help here, i have modelled a character in maya, unwrapped in maya, imported to zbursh and sculpted but when i normal map and export low poly mesh and apply im maya my map isnt greatly detailed and also it has horrible blotches on? see image and please help me here ive spent so long modelling this character?

The problem from the looks of it is the projection distance isn’t far enough. But I don’t know how to fix this in Zbrush…in Zmapper you could increase the raycasting distance to fix it. But in 3.5 I have no idea how to do that.
