Big Head Dino

I haven’t posted much in months so I thought I’d post this. It’s a work project but kind of an outrageous design. It’s meant to be silly and extreme. There’s actually a toy version coming out next year. This is part of a series of half hour CG spots being done right now. The basic model was Lightwave but most of the shaping is Zbrush.

That’s funny and cool. Nice work :+1: :+1:

Looks to me like Yoshi has been abusing performance enhancing drugs. Just say ‘No’ Yoshi.

wow good idea ! i like it , muscle and structure vevy nice ! but i think i expect u finally works!

Kool. Nice idea

Love it!

Thought I’d post the rigged model. Still could use some tweaks. Mostly it needs a bit more painting things like the nails and teeth. Too busy to worry for now and it’s fine for the promo piece I’m working on. I’ll do more later. The rig worked out real well and it’s easy to animate. Tricky doing walks given the head basically touches the ground. I’m tempted to do an inside joke and have it running with it’s head in a gutter for a shot. Back in the late 1800s when they were arguing whether dinos walked splay legged like reptiles or not it was pointed out they would have had to have walked in gutters to keep their bellies from dragging. Could be a fun insider bit.

Heh heh … ultra-freaky. I can feel my neck aching in sympathy.

I’d love to do a shot where he plops his head on a skateboard then suddenly realizes he can run for the first time. I’m working on the first walking cycle right now. I’m definately making it a bit painful with the head bobbing a lot as he tries to keep it up. I thought he was going to be a pain to animate but so far it’s been a lot of fun.

One thing I did do since this version was fix the teeth. The teeth were looking too linear so I made them follow the jaw line more. The only downside was it made the teeth really jagged from the front so he looks a lot scarier straight on. It’s for a kid’s show so I don’t want it too scary.

It would be pretty cool to see an ani of him just sitting there (like those fish at the bottom of the sea waiting for their prey to come to them) and watch “man” (like that one ape to man poster) become dinner!

Cute, I think my neck aches with sympathy pains for the big guy, but I wouldn’t worry about scaring kids…look at the movies they are watching these days…this guy could have body parts and blood oozing between his teeth and that wouldn’t phase em.

Glad you are enjoying yourself a little more with your zb projects.

Definately having more fun with Zbrush. I’ve kind of worked out a compromise with Lightwave to make the models more useable. The new version of Lightwave should be avialible in a few weeks that supports Zbrush better.

I was thinking about a scene like you describe. Something like a pile of fruit on it’s tongue with bushes around his head. Kind of laying in wait. The first shot is rendering now. Dying to see how it went. His best angle is actuall a 3/4 either front or rear view. Hopefully in the final episode I’ll be able to work in a lot of shots of this character. He’s surprisingly easy to animate. I’d love to do an intro shot where at first all you see is the giant T-Rex like head coming towards camera then it rotates around and you see the rediculously small body. Very Tex Avery. I’m a huge Tex Avery fan. I just missed meeting him. The first place I worked regularly was the last place he worked but I missed him by months. Tex Avery and Chuck Jones were my heroes for 2D animation. They definately ruled the golden age.

I don’t want to scare off the clients with this one. They are concerned about making it too violent or scary, it’s for young children up to early teens. I’m okay so far I just want to be careful not to go too far.

hehe wouldent wanna come across that doggie in a dark ally LOL looks cool man (Talk about having a big mouth)

haha thats pretty well done.

Thats a hugh ***** area lump. sorta blasts your eyes right that way after a second. isnt that a useless feature that would be better half gone?

Just a noticed thought.

Love it…the teeth are rilly well done

I think what you are referring to is the pubic bone. It’s actually bone and would be part of the hip girdle on a human. Check out Velociraptors that bone extends halfway to the ground. One belief is it’s so pronounce on dinosaurs is they rested on it. Also it forms a major attachment point for muscles. Check out any theropd dinosaur and you’ll see that bone extending back. The hip girdle is divided into two parts with one going forward towards the belly and the other angled back towards the tail. A lot of people simply ignore that feature when they do reconstructions. Either that or they make the belly so big it buries the bone entirely.

the upper part of the head, where the nose part is at reminds me of yoshi from mario video game series.
