I like the second fish so much ehhh… n1
This is very cool. What does it eat I wonder?
Ralf, this is amazing! Your clear design really tells the process.
Your Z modeling, texturing, color, rendering… just beautiful.
When anyone asks me what zbrush is all about, I’d have to show them this straight away.
Just wonderful!
And now a little dragonfly for the nourishment of these charming fishes
I hope that the wings of the little dragonfly permit to escape to these heartless fishes
Pilou
Very clear. Very defined. Digital sculpting near its best.
Hey Ralf i was wondering if you had any specific tools, or perferred methods you use when making your stylized creatures and objects.
Your style is very clean, just wondering if u use the pinch brush, or paint lots of masks, etc. maybe a of u in zscript of u in action?
Any insight would be cool. I can tell from your making of" fish there is a lot of control in the sculpt. -Ken
Stumpf - Great fish I also prefer the second one, but both are great. Ditto on the fish movie - Thats what got me to pull out the plastic.
I for one am glad the Z has ya hooked!
Thanks for the mini tut…always a pleasure to see how you go about stuff!
The secon done looks very very cool. Maybe a more realistic/human eye will do a better job there.
I´d go for photorealism with those interesting designs
Cool work
Thanks all for viewing
slocik: Thanks, I use two fish reference books to find a nice combination
for a new species, not too many teeth but a lot of tentacles and fins.
Zoetrope: Thanks, I think he eats all what’s not moved fast enough
joe_seig: Thanks, It’s a good idea to sketch things before you start modeling
so you have the right brackets for 3Dsculpting.
Frenchy: Thanks, a dragonfly are nice, maybe for the cartoon thread
lemons: Thanks again, way to go to the top, that’s good
spaz8: I try to find the important lines in the low subLevels. Then I use the standard
Brush and the combination mask&move to make the creases at last I use the pinch
Brush (not too big) and projectionMaster for the kick. One day I make a zScript
but it dosen’t work for a whole project (I have try).
Blaine91555: Thanks, and welcome to the fish club
aminuts: Greetings, and I’m glad too
Jhotun: Thanks, I have try a more human eye. But the fish became too kindly
Cheers

Wow Ralf!
That’s reaaaally cool stuff! I love that smooth & cartoony feeling of your images… And also that smooth rendering… just WOW! It’s also great to see that you make use of post-processing, something that isn’t often be done by ZBrushers… But you just show of something like post-processing is really good for the quality of your image and the final look! Your images (and especially that second posted fish
) make me, with ZBrush, feel to be the richest man on earth!
Just one question: how do you get that very soft look of the model…? (that you don’t see any polys). Just keep dividing or is it more than that? Maybe a smart post-processing-trick? Just curious…
Have tons of fun & All the best!
-Gijs
Dutchman: Thanks for compliments.
There is no post-trick. First, I think the smoothness comes because I work very slow with low intensity (5 to 12) and of course it’s the high poly count.
Secondly, I render in high resolution with AAHalf. What you see in the thread is
40% from the original size.

Thats awesome. Fish are fun.
Ralf, I like the deepsea fish, special the presentation of it. Also the way you make the sharp-edged surface. Pinchtool?
The shape of the tail could be more ‘fish-like’ also the material.
Great style! 5*
Wow! I wish I could get my work to look that clean.
Great style as always.
PATTON
Not my kind of style at all… which is why I love it! Love coming here and seeing different approaches to 3d. Great stuff and will look forward to seeing more.
argonaut and coye: Thanks, and welcome
Bas: Thanks, it’s the pinch-tool but it’s more mask & move. You have right, the fish is not realistic it is more like a sculpture
Patton: Thanks for the compliment. It was a lot of fun to make the
deep sea fish
Cheers
Ralf Stumpf
Hi all,
I work on a new underwater fantasy creature. The design is based on the
Maelstrom character from Ice Age 2. It’s a kind or primitive times giant turtle.
I started from zSpheres and I use the edge loop function to have a nice base.
The model is only to improve my skills and to test the bump viewer material
and of course the zAppLink plug in in the end. Hope you like the process.
Cheers

Gorgeous, fun stuff Ralf! I love the eye on that ‘Angler’. 50.
Stumpf I love your final render of the fish. It has kind of a texture that you get when you are modeling in Sculpey polymer clay. I like a lot the eye area. Very clean and well modeled! If you can post what you used for the materials, texture, and lighting would be appreciated! Keep the good work!!
