best way to experiment with brush settings but get back defaults

howdy,

i had a question about this older thread that came up when i did a google search:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=803129

i am just starting to setup and modify my own brushes and i was wondering if the information in this thread is still valid.

i can’t seem to find any “first” brush in the tool palette that is the original and will return me to the original settings, nor can i see a duplicate brush that is created when i start to play around and change settings.

has this changed in zb4?

assuming that it is different now, my question would be what is the best way to experiment with brush settings and still get back the default brush if my experimenting makes a mess of the brush?

  • is the best way to simply clone brushes before experimenting and experiment on the clones?
  • experimenting and then hitting the “restore default settings for all brushes” button?
  • is there another button that i can press that will restore default settings to just a particular brush?

thanks much.

brush>clone
Change the settings of the brush as you see fit.
brush>selectIcon (if you want to)
brush>save as

This way you’re not altering the original brush and can alway go back to it.

Your link doesn’t work for me. (no permission)

Any changes you make to brushes in ZBrush are not permanent unless you save the brush you made changes to. Restarting ZBrush or ‘Init ZBrush’ or ‘Reset All Brushes’ in the brush palette will restore default settings.

There is a tutorial here on how to make custom brushes with custom icons. It says ZBrush 3.1, but should still be the same for ZBrush 4.

oops, the proper link is here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=16847

thanks guys. ok, so the best way is to just clone it first and then play around.

got it.

the workflow as described in the link sounds better for just playing around with brush styles but cloning is no big deal either. just couldn’t get anything to work as described in the old thread and thought i was missing something.

thank you very much!
