Best way to add topology!

Hey guys,

currently i am creating a new model. I am an animator so i need some tips and tricks in ZBrush, here is my question:

The nose need more Polys / Topology, what methods are availalble to to this? I thought there is a easy way, but i found the solution to export it to Maya or any other 3D-App, reimport it into ZBrush and than i have to do a Remesh-All. Thats not an easy way…so i found another resolution to add topology, whre i have to create new Geometry inside of ZBrush, but than i have to do a Remesh, too…so its the same as the export to Maya etc. Is there any option to add new Topology / Geometry to my model without remeshing? Dynamesh could be this option, but the resolution / the quality of the generated dynamesh is to low and the performance of ZBrush is bad.

Thank you for your help and have a nice day!

edge loop mask border is a quick easy way to add loops and works really well on low poly models great for edges on higher poly models:+1:

Remesh/Dynamesh/Qremesh are the ways to go when to want a massive overhaul of the entire mesh.

For more focused areas, there are a few other options:

  • There are a variety of edgeloop tools that can create all sorts of edgeloops and insets based on things like polygroups and visible faces
  • The transpose tool can be used to create extrusions
  • Slice curve can slice your model to create new edges that way
  • You can use zspheres to copy the existing topology of the mesh to give to a starting point, and then take advantage of its retopology tools to delete and add new verts and edges and your leisure.
  • GoZ was designed for a reason; sometimes a good feature for zbrush is just making it play nicely with other programs : )
