Berreck's Sketchbook/WIP thread

Been using Z-Brush since last October when I started teaching myself.
I’ve been using it a lot for freelance ever since and it forced me to improve alot.
I have tons to learn still and i’m actually going back to school now for my Masters so hopefully I get more time to sculpt!

This is a character for a game from a new studio called Oddbuzz.
As of yet this is an unnamed character, and he’s my 6th model for these guys.
I’m already into the process on this one but I plan on updating this daily now so I can learn from all you fine artists out there!

This was my initial sculpt after 4 hours of work, I started with a quick Z-Sphere sketch.
At this point I was cleaning him up and slowly adding details.

I hope to post here ALOT over the next few years.
This community is great and I want to be a part of it if I’m worthy!

dont use the DOF like that. its not good

sorry you feel that way, I felt like using it for these renders for fun.

I thought it looked fine on everything but that first image. Because, 1) you’re far enough away from him that the effect wouldn’t be that drastic, so it doesn’t seem as realistic as it does on the others, and 2) it makes it so you can’t see anything above his chest.

I love the character anyways

Thanks twf! it’s the most complicated character I’ve made so far. This is the first time I’ve used more than a few subtools. It was really tedious but I learned a lot. I want to pose him in a more interesting pose but i’m nervous about all the subtools moving correctly.

Quick speed sculpt to warm up today

started this yesterday, hope to finish it today. Gonna be an ecorche project for practice. I really need to learn to sculpt better.

I’m still having so much trouble sculpting cloth, this time I tried to use just the standard brush and changed where gravity was as I moved from leg to leg. I tried forcing the fabric down and away with gravity as i sculpted. Is that a good way to do it?

why is this zombie so happy ?

Well, he’s gonna have a treasure chest overflowing with brains soon, haha. Wouldn’t you be happy?

Not sure why there was hate on the DOF i think it looks awesome. Makes it look like a miniature. Wicked.

been working on this zombie pirate for a few days now. Lots more pieces to make for it though. I’d really like critiques and tips. I want to become a better sculptor!

Good job so far. you need to make the top of the skull a little tiny bit bigger and more spherical.

I’m just about done sculpting this now I think but none of my bpr settings are giving me a good result. Especially around the patch on his pants and his buttons. Really frustrating!

you mena best preview render ?
Set shadows blur to 2, ao angle to 50 and blur to 2.
And pick a material with no cavcity ;]
Anyway the mdoel looks a lot serious now without the smile, a lot more scary and stylized ;D

heyy thanks, I’ll try out those bpr settings in a little bit!

@slocik I tried out those ao settings and messed with the matcap and got some decent results. Here’s a final character sheet for this guy, had a horrible time posing him. Transpose masters always seems to do strange things for me.

Berreck - I see that the inside of the trousers need some creases

Loooks great, the better render helps it, remember to nevre ever use materials with cavity.
I swear i will write a petition for pixologic guys to remove all cavity shaders, they are making everything look ugly as hel.
