behemoth wip

Hello community ^^

have been sculpting on this thing 2 evenings so far… since im completely new to 3d and have been learning zbrush for 1 week now, I hope you guys have some advise for me.

4 subtools:
-head/shoulder area
-left arm
-right arm
-body and legs

now id need some advise… what will happen with the subdivision levels if i merge these tools together in order to work out the transition areas like shoulder to arms?
the head area has subdivision level 6, the arms are at 3 and the body at 4…

thx in advance

You can use the SubTool Master plugin to merge your subtools. But keep in mind that nothing will actually weld the edges where the two models come together. What you’d have to do is retopologize the model after merging it.

What aurick said.

also, if you’re going to merge the subtools together, give them an equal number of subdivisions.

you said the head was at 6. so make the arms at 6, the legs at 6 and then merge them together.

This lets you reconstruct your lower subdivisions all the way back down because they each had an equal number of subdivisions, they can have an equal number of reconstruction levels as well.

But as aurick said, they are still going to be a broken mesh.

thx goats and aurick for the info.
one more question maybe…
if i merge with subtool master and export the broken merged mesh as an obj file, then import that file i should be able to “weld” the edges ?

It depends on whether the points coincide or not. Welding looks at points; not edges. Two edges can be right on top of each other, but if the have different point positioning along those edges then only the points that are extremely close together will be welded.
