Dear all. I have been using maya for a while now, but Im a beginner with z-brush. I’d like to learn a bit of the maya/zbrush workflow. I have exported obj’s from maya to z before, but today an object I have imported from maya is missing faces in zbrush. The faces are there as when I spin the object around they come into view from certain angles. The effect is a bit like having backface culling switched on in maya (but reversed i.e, you see the faces at the back, not the front). I have tried different obj export settings in maya, tried fiddling with the normals, and made sure backface culling isnt on before export (i never use backface culling anyway). But each exported file still has this problem where the only faces i can see are the faces at the back, and not the front. Can someone tell me why this is happening/how to rectifty this? I don’t go off the beaten track too much in z so I can’t think that I’ve fiddled with any settings I shouldnt.
Faces aren’t missing. The normals are flipped.
I don’t know why this happens sometimes coming out of Maya. But you can simply press Tool>Display Properties>Flip (to flip the normals back) or Double (to show both sides of polygons and hide the issue).
Thankyou Aurick. Spot on.
