Basic modeling tools in ZBrush or no?

Hiya,

I’m working on a model imported in using the GoZ bridge. This model has eyelash panels, two upper, two lower for each eye. I wish there was a way to say CTRL select a row of vertices and drag them to what ever position I need rather that using the Move tool (or similar) to move one at a time or is there?? If so please instruct.

Thanks

Richard

my guess is perhaps Via a retopo. I have never done this, still rather new to that level of sculpting. you can perhaps turn on, Poly frame, this will allow you to see the individual polys. I Understand what you are asking, That is one of the advantages more easily reachable in box modeling. If no one else here gives you an answer, I recommend researching Retopology in Zbrush. This may be your answer.

One more thought, Have you tried using the Move topology brush? Ore Move elastic? Adjust scale to move in real close without distorting, and try using the move Topology brush, with show poly frames activated. ;)

Also Richard, If your importing a premade figure from Daz or Poser, Iclone, I have found that the eyelashes are very funky. Not a starndard object. I’m guessing that those figure programs render hair and eye lashes in a special manner. They seem to import in a super low rez fashion.

Hiya,

Thanks so much for the response. Yea, it’s Genesis from DAZ3D and yes, the lashes are just panels for making transmapped lashes. I do use the Move Topology brush ALLOT in this area. I’ll try the Move Elastic brush and see what happens. I still have 4 more panels to move groan Just wish that ZBrush had some more basic modeling tools built in as I explained above. Would really make this app even better. Folks like to use it for sculpting but allot of folks are now using it, in the gaming and lower end industries, to make morphs, clothing and even building figure bases with so allot of these missing tools force us to use a second program, which kinda sucks. I have Hexagon but it’s so in need of some TLC but it’s no the top of the list for DAZ3D. I have the trial of MAXON Bodypaint but their more basic modeler is on sale until the end of April so I’m considering getting that. Blender just confuses the hell out of me to no end so that’s not a solution. I’m on a budget so can’t get too far up there in price… SIGH…

Thanks for the help!

ya I understand.I am on a budget as well. I own Carrara, Daz3d poser, hexagon and Zbrush. I also use Vue and have Bryce. I Also found Blender rather frustrating. I tihnk your best option is to create your own eyelashes here or even try Hexagon, if you got it in last months giveaway. I love genesis, I just wish Daz/poser models weren’t so chuncky and crappy outside of the parent programs.

Can’t create new lashes, this is a morph. It’s called Fuzzy. It’s from an old novel and they are fully called Peekaboo Fuzzies. So I’ve morphed genesis face and ears into one but with the eyes being so huge the default eye closure morph is not good enough. The Fuzzies really don’t have lashes that I can see from the few paintings that I’ve found by Michael Whelan but I wanted them to work well in case folks wanted to use the critter for other reasons and make it look different.

Yea, this is Genesis morphed… The Fuzzy is hairless at the moment… a friend at DAZ3D is doing his own version of fiber hair and it will be a new plugin for DAZ Studio when he’s through so I’ll wait for that to be completed, sometime after July. I’m in no hurry as I have a huge project I’m trying to complete called “Bruno for Genesis” converting an old freebie of mine from Vittorio 4 to Genesis. I have created 9 full body morphs, 2 heads and many fix morphs. I have another pack of character faces, about 30 of them and another pack of “enhancement” morphs and a smaller pack of female based morphs. Been very busy in ZBrush using the GoZ bridge!

Ramwolf… I thought I recognized that name from some where. Welcome Refugee from the Daz forums!

Fuzzies, I recall that series, 3 or 4 books and then the author had died right? unable to complete the series? I had a few of the books. They were kind of like Ewoks but had big eyes like you have on that one. it looks great! Hmm a morph huh? ya, I understand not being able to add new geometry. I found that frustrating with Daz GoZ. Hopefully they will find a way around that in the future. As far as the hair is concerned, Have you thought about using Carrara for that? It has a great hair system. The Current beta is pretty Genesis Compatible from what I can tell. Worth testing. I believe the Beta is still open if you wanted to tinker with it.

One more question, have you tried importing any models with Zbrush’s Materials? I am kind of curious if any of them translate very well…

Thanks for the welcome… I usually get ignored here because I’m not some high end modeler with aspirations to rule the world!

Not tried working with any of the materials… I keep it very simple. Cath (Mec4D) mentioned to me in a private email not to bother with the texturing from ZBrush since 1) you have to jump through hoops to get the Genesis maps combined and then separated back out again and 2) she found the textures to be very blurry and she’s a perfectionist and demands crystal clear detail in her works. So I’m toying with getting Bodypaint while MAXON has it on sale (ends at the end of April). Some friends did up a couple of tutorials for me but then I got involved in this challenge to make Genesis into a Peekaboo Fuzzy! lol

Dammit… then whats the point of having a freaking GoZ bridge??? If you can’t use Zbrush for what it dose best - adding texture and details. I swear the Daz developers are the most laziest ass backwards dev’s I have ever come across. Well… Maybe Silo dev’s are in the lead there… But Daz is in the #2 slot.

I swear they only included the bloody bridge as a freaking marketing ploy. You might as well use hexagon or blender to make your morphs. /Rage

sorry. It just really bugs me.

Actually the bridge is quite brilliant though in transferring morph information too and from ZB/DS… so I’m cool with it. It is too bad that the texturing issue persists but as I’ve stated so many folks that use ZB are high end modelers that start from scratch. The industry we are involved in is considered a “cottage industry” and allot of these folks look down their noses at us as if we have no talent which is a load of crap but that’s their opinion and quite frankly I don’t give a darned about their opinions!

ya, you can encounter allot of prejudice here for those of us who may have touched or used a figure posing program. I had a few knock down drag out fights with a few folks. Here is how I see things… A tool is a tool, when it comes to art its your creation, no matter what tool you use. I personally struggle with figure modeling. I have a tendency to use preconstructed figures. In Zbrush, I make clothing, add details, make subtools like weapons, architecture and scenery pieces. then I take all these things into Vue or Carrara to assemble into a scene and render it.

God forbid we don’t have to money to buy $5,000+ animation and rendering package, or are morally bankrupt enough to pirate it.

There is a population of artists here who forget that Zbrush is priced in the range of the Hobbyist.

Now on the opposite side of the fence, I have had conversations with Daz users who are truly frightened of sculpting so much as a trash can.

While you are here, I recommend working on some sculpting. make some models in Zbrush from scratch, Decimate them and import them into a Daz Scene. I find it empowering.

You have entered a jagged zone, scorned by both sides and loved by neither. Keep smiling, someday more like us will come to light.

Trust me, being an openly gay man, living with HIV for over 25 years… I have little fear of others and have quite a shell. If someone has something rude to say I either turn the other cheek or I let them have it… use queer boys have a very poisonous tongue I must admit… plus I’m 51 years old so I know how to work my words very well when pushed… I also work out on a regular basis and have a look that not many mess with in real life… so a few folks here in this little world of ours on line that don’t want to help, have no manners and trash what I’m trying to do I ignore then for the most part. I always picture them being 400 lbs, smoking crack and whacked on booze with no social skills. LOL

Sorry to drop that info bomb but trust me I’m good on my end, very good! :stuck_out_tongue:

If your cool with all that and are on Facebook you can find me under Richard McCormick. I’m quite political and have a mouth on me there but most of my friends do so we have a good time! lol

sure thing man. I will send ya a friends request. Expect one from a Joshua Reynolds, from Oregon. :+1:

As for the bomb, it dose not phase me. My hats off to you, 25 years of HIV. WOW, you have been a lucky man to live with it for so long. I’m a pretty open minded guy. I had a few friends who were Gay and lesbian in my teen age years. I am a bit familiar with the life style. I had been to a few clubs with them. Man, they new how to party! :sunglasses:

Your spirit brightens me, my friend!

Accepted… Hope some of my rants there sit OK with you. I am a tease and very vociferous at times! With all these projects lately I haven’t been as active on Fb but when I have time I tend to really have fun there.

Rich

its all good my friend ^^

Yes, it is!
