Banging my head against the wall

I am about to lose my sanity such as it ever was due to Zbrush

I am trying to follow Ryan Kingsliens Modeiling with Texture tut.

I can only ever get to one of two points but that stump me

When I go into Projection Master to move the texture to match my model I cant use the move tool, all i can use is the simple brush ?

either that or I manage to move the texture to fit my model but when i leave Proj Master again all my changes are lost and im back to my model as it was again

If I dont run beserk due to this itll be a miracle

Why are you in projection mode? You might be able to do everything in the normal view if you use alpha’s an textures.

To be honest I think I would be better if I threw the entire thing into the trash and stuck to crayons

I have seen some fantastic work coming from Zbrush artists but the app is NOT user friendly and was certainly never designed with the poor user in mind

I honestly do not have the slightest idea how to use this program

yes giving up is always the best option

It just takes time. I wouldn’t throw in the towel this early. Give it another couple of weeks following tutorials.

No, giving up is not the best option.

However whatever happened to intuitive application design and layout out your concepts for the program rather than coding by the seat of one’s pants and feature creep.

If an application can’t be used by a complete and utter noob e.g Me without detailed tuts then it is certainly not well designed.

If I could find clear concise understandable help I’d follow it.

Who said making art was easy? I can think of a lot of programs that take years to learn and decades to fully master.

If it was so simple and easy, then everyone and their grandma would be doing it.

Just keep at it and post detailed questions here. You will get all the help and support you need.

I totally agree with you, the stuff I have seen from some people here is awesome

I just wish Pixologic would put the same level of excellence into the documentation that they seem to have in the code.

I’m not denying Zbrush is an incredible tool but its damn hard to use.

i was being sarcastic before, of course i believe that perseverance is the only way :+1:

That tutorial was written for version 2. Version 3 added TransPose, which replaced the previous Transform>Move functionality. For that reason, the Move brush was created, which is found in the Brush palette. Because it’s now a brush, it is able to make use of the various brush modifiers which give it more flexibility and power than with Z2.

Thanks aurick, I was wondering if my brain was not working or something

At least now I know the reason I was having a lot of problems

 Always look at the original date of a tutorial. If it’s before May 2007, then it’s going to be for version 2 and you’ll have to make some adjustments. Of course, any pictures of the interface will be a dead giveaway, too!
