Balrog WIP

Hi again, I’m going on with a new model. Actually it’s done in MODO but Zbrush is always the best tool for refining the mesh.
Let me know what do you think

nice Balrog head. I really like the detail of its face  very neat

I’m not disappointed, but I regret being not too accurate in the points I’ve already sculpted.
Of course horns are just sketched.

I’ve got problems with mesh resolution, too. I want to get the highest number of polys possible but the 7th level of subdivision is not as accurate ads I would.
Still, it’s 4millions polys… my pc handles them with great difficulty… I cannot go on subdividing. It means that I will refine the disp map with photoshop.

Please critique this picture!
I would like to know if you usually sculpt meshes with more than 4 million polys. If yes, how do you get the needed level of detail?

With a dual Xeon (i.e.) is it possibile to go further in subdividing? Thanks

trully “great” work, gollum, superb modeled:+1:
(btw:most important is size of ram, you should have round 2GB for such resolution…)

I think you mean 2 GIG Abysis.

Great work ! Man how I wish I had a PC that could handle half the polys your using!!! Mind sharing what your specs are over there gollum?

I hope your going to texture this fella.

P

thanks!
I’ve got an Athlon XP 1800+ with 1024 MB ram. I’m not sure you would envy me if u could see how slow I can sculpt and move the mesh. Yes, I guess that there’s always something worst, but this it’s a serious limit.
Since I’m thinking to upgrade my PC I was wondering if a dual processor with 2 gb of ram or more could help a lot. I guess the answere is in the question itself, but if there’s someone who has direct experience…

Anyway I0m going to sculpt the mesh another time because I’m unhappy with the overall results. Then I will texture it, of course.

nice one, but 4 million and still not enough for a head?? i don’t know why it’s not enough, but maybe you should use a better basemesh.

4 millions for half the head!
I’ve tried to make the mesh more uniform as possible, but I still get pixelation in some points.
One question: why the disp map has a limit of 4096 pixels? Is it possibile to increase this value?

of course yesss, damned keyboard

the high resolution starts to give his advantages. Please give hints if you like

One question: if one day I want to export as a texture that nice effect on the surface what should I do?

[render1.JPG](javascript:zb_insimg(‘12210’,‘render1.JPG’,1,0))

U can use the projection master. Give your tool a fast shader with ambient 100 and diffuse to 0.Then in PM check the color and shaded option on. Draw on top the material with the cavity setting and render.
Then press g again to exit the PM.
Hope it helps:)

Gollum26 …Excelente acercamiento :+1:

Another update… around the eye the resolution is too low for the amount of details. Everytime I quit from projection painter all the hard work vanishes
I definetely need a bigger boat :stuck_out_tongue:

hey nice job! great details! i wonder how u guys paint these high quality detailes, mayb im going the wrong way,but it need so many polygons! dosnt it! ofcourse lets not to forget bout RAM.huh?

Very very nice. do you render in MODO?

This is great work! I love the detail around the teeth. :+1:

Don’t forget you can subdivide a portion of the mesh. Doing this won’t always be a good idea - it depends on what your model is intended for (tris will be created) - but when memory is tight, or if the app you’re going to render in can’t handle a lot of polys it can be a life saver. If you’re interested you might like to test a plugin I’ve posted in this thread . Take note that it is a beta, so don’t use it on something special without backing up your model!

I’ve gone further with the model and I don’t think I will touch it again: it’s time to dedicate my attention to another project
As suggested by another zbrush member that noticed the model on cgtalk, I’ll show you.

As always, be critic!
