Outstanding Chris, man I know all bout them dice Absolutely stunning image and presentation of this guy!
well, i would say this picture is an increadible success. you did an awesome job. i too like the gem on the staff…very nice touch. the hands are very good too (i can’t do hands at all) and all his gear is very cool. i like the simitar he has. very, very, cool guy.
jibberish
Awesome amount of work. Great concept. It reminds me of “Toy Story”. It’s nice to see where that moonface finally ended up along with all of the other great details in this
Awesome work, cneofotistos! I really like his face, but the whole image is excellent!
kudos, Chris! absolutely fantastico done Orc!
we became witness of a great WIP and learned a lot on the way there… i’ve lost track of some of the threads, though - so i wished there was a Birth of an Orc-section or a Cneofotistos-compilation of some kind within QuickLinks soon
BTW: what about your exams-WIP? i sure hope you manage to come up with such A+++ results at university, too!

Very good work. I think it´s very difficult to modell a toy like this. You did a great job.
Kerstin
thank you all. deeply touched
jade> painting this model was half as hard as painting those miniatures. believe me I know cheers to zbrush!
greg> thank you. these dice where a puzzle to make at first. but zbrush pulled it off like a charm. staying up late to the company of rpgs, eh?
stonecutter> did what I could with this one. your vote counts.
tag> your vote counts as well thanx
buzzwizard> I’m flattered that you’ve been tracking my work! glad to know this one wasn’t a let-down.
zuzu> YE GODS! MODERATORS MAY POST POSITIVE COMMENTS? lol!
Kaz> I knew this forum is friendly. I’m touched by everyone’s leniency…
Kathy> cheers to the first professional fish-modeller I’ve had the pleasure to meet.
Digits> ah, a fellow dungeon master? or perhaps a PhD in geometry? your vote counts for more, with that pretty star under your name.
jibberish> I don’t know if you’re going to believe it, but before I started this image (and consequently consulted this forum 3 times a day ), I couldn’t do hands either.
it’s all masking and stuff like that, but the lads and lasses in this forum have such an intuitive way of explaining.
Zoid> yes that ought to be a nice touch, thanks for taking notice lol @ Toy Story.
Nikko> thanks. actually, the most datailed piece (and more complex mesh) were the hands, and after that, the 10-sided die. but such things are unimportant when an image is finished.
juandel> thank you for your rating of 10 (!!!) in renderosity. argh, it’s hard to believe people do that! regarding the process of orc creation, there isn’t much to know… I have been trying to make the orc into a polymesh, but failed. so, now I have a nice image, and lots of Zbrush techniques up my sleeve :)) (my exams were not as good, however… I passed Neurophysiology and failed Anosology 303 - who cares? art is so much more human than medicine)
Kerstin> I’ve been following your work until today. I think that, from a guy of such artistic talent, kind words like these are a praise.
thank you all…
Christos.

Absolutely worth the wait, Chris! I love everything about this. In many ways, it could easily be a photograph of one of my old painted miniatures. Your attention to detail is, as usual, superb.
I also know that it can’t have been easy modeling that d10. Yikes!
Great work!
thank you aurick
the die wasn’t hard. just required unusual thinking…
modelled out of a sphere 3D, with low polygon initialization settings, as well as smoothing turned off. so, I ended up with a decahedron. I divided the mesh as much as I needed, and smoothed out the edges a bit. then, I painted the numbers on each side as they should be (I was looking at my real dice) and then exported the texture. on the exported texture (in photoshop, I’m afraid), I placed text numbers on a new layer, where the hand-painted ones were. it was puzzling the way some of the numbers had to be flipped horizontally AND vertically, but there you have it.
I imported the texture in Zbrush, where it wrapped around my dodecahedron perfectly, and then made it into an alpha as well. I then used a selection > from alpha, to mask the die leaving the numbers unmasked, and inflated some negative values and painted, so the numbers would appear engraved.
nothing new here, then
well its about time you posted it… ive been waiting to see the final picture for sometime now, and it was worth every breath taking minute,… excellent job on the modeling… care to share any tips for myself and the other newbies…
of course drjj. I have no secrets. just tell me what you need to know. my work is always chaotic, and it doesn’t always come out the same twice, but I can manage a few tips.

'Afternoon Chris . . .
Well, this was definitely worth the wait, one very fine image. I don’t know how you decided to complete the assembly of the “Orc” object, but it came out just perfecto. Examining this image & your previous images, I firmly believe you’re a famous artist or sculpture over there in Greece. I’m going to have to try & get some information on the Internet about famous artists or sculptures located in Greece & see if your name is listed somewhere.
I’m very happy that you did get the model completed, so you could post the finished image. I’m really impressed.
Now that your finished with this project, I’m anxious to see your next masterpiece. Have a good one Chris . . . Mark.
Dude!
DUDE!!! That’s awesome! I love so much of the work here, but this HAS to be in my top 5. You brought back so many memories of staying up until 6AM playing D&D. I have to show my friends this! I really love the dice too. Just want you to know that seeing this image put a HUGE smile on my face. GREAT JOB!!
Stacey> so kind thank you. always love to hear from a fellow player.
don’t show it to your friends. just get down and play a campaign in my name (the christos campain? sounds good enough, let me be the evil financing consultant)

quote:
a thinking artist is no surprise

Mark!!> I’m but a humble med student here in Greece (and anywhere in the world as well)
the orc was finally put together as a polymarker. it was hard enough, of course, positioning all limbs precisely, but Zbrush pulled this one off smoothly. thank you again for your guidance, and your encouragement my friend. have a good one.
by the way, this image is today, one day after I posted it, on the eleventh page of the renderosity Best Ranking pics!
thanx to all who voted for me!

quote:
a thinking artist is no surprise

Another thumbs up from me. I’ll have to pop over to Renderosity and give it vote as well.
Brings back memories of late nights and boxes of pizza as well.
A very well done image Chris!
The modeling is just fantastic, no other word. So well put together too…I like the dice.
Hello christos
This is most superb – many nice touches here. I particularly like the feel of a glaze on the figurine, the legs, boots, shoulder and ears. The translucency, most apparent on the legs - is very well done. The dice are the crowning touch, remove these and the image would feel so so different.
Bravo
jd
thanx again, guys. I loved the feedback.

Another good one! This is excellence!
