background constraint..

hi,
Is it possible in any way or similar way to sculpt and add geometry to a particular SubTool or Polygroup while using a different SubTool or polygroup as a background constraint geometry to paint on, whereby the new sculpt/geometry you’re creating snaps to the background geometry but is separated from it. I hope I did not confuse you all with what I’m trying to ask here.

edit: okay… maybe this might explain it better. Imagine I’m using a new ‘Layer’ and painting/sculpting and creating new geometry. Now I’d like to turn this new layer into a subtool or so such that I can move the newly sculpted object around or separate it form the underlying/original mesh I sculpted on.

Are you trying to do something like this??? It works with polypaint as well…

Short answer, Nope.

You could enable transparency to view through a duplicated subtool and with PolyFrame on use it as a reference. Not exactly what you want, I do it all the time to make one shape more like the underlying one, moving points etc. HTH
