Backfacemasking for masking

Hey guys! I want to mask one part of a thin object but the mask goes through to the other side even if I have backface-masking on. How do you mask a really thin object on just one side?

The backface masking is what it says - it masks the backface. It is separate from ordinary masking and you don’t need to use any other mask, unless you want to mask the front face that you are working on. The mask will show on the back but the whole of the back face will be unaffected by your sculpting.

Question: Were you holding down “Ctrl” when activating BackfaceMasking?

If it has 2 polygroups(1/side), you can increase mask by polygroup setting to 100 and auto should take care of it…maybe…; thin stuff can get wonky depending on what’s being done. HTH

Yes, I was misunderstanding what you wanted to do. Make sure you are holding Ctrl when you turn on Backface Masking, so that it is turned on for the Masking brush.

Ok, holding down control while pressing backfacemasking did it.Thanx!
