backface masking issue 4.2

Hi

When I draw some radial masks on a reMeshed filter they draw on the backside of the mesh as well - i’m on R4.2. I don’t want this.

Screenshots below

I’ve scoured the forums and documentation on Zbrush Central so apologies to hassle you. I read elsewhere on the forum that backside masking option doesn’t work with the rectangle stroke.

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?165315-How-to-paint-a-mask-on-one-side-of-an-object-only&highlight=backface+mask

What would therefore be a good solution? I’ve hidden the backside of the mesh and drawn on the masks that way - is that the best solution?

Also is there anyway to constrain the standard mask stroke - I know in earlier versions of Zbrush there was the option to press shift to constrain but that no longer works.

Ok thanks in advance for any help
Mark

Rotate the model to the side view and unmask the back half you don’t want masked. You can do this by using CTRL+ALT as this will subtract from the masking instead of adding to it.

Exactly. It’s also not a good idea (in general) when working on hard surfaces, as I think you are here, to sculpt with perspective on. It can distort things in unexpected ways, especially masks.

As to your second question, try Stroke > LazyMouse > Backtrack > Snap To Track > Line. If you are going to use it for a mask, make those selections while holding down Ctrl or whatever key it is on a Mack.

Hi all

Thanks very much for all the tips.

MentalFrog & voodoodad - In the end I got around it by hiding the end of the mesh that I didn’t want masked. I take it that means there is no way to turn the backface masking off for the rectangle and other selection tools? That’s fine as long as I know for sure and I know some decent work arounds. Thanks for the perspective tip also.

Zber2 - i think that command will come is very useful in the future. Many thanks.
